Baseball Toaster was unplugged on February 4, 2009.
From Tyler Kepner in the Times:
After the game, the clubhouse shook with 1980s rap music ("Mary, Mary" by Run-D.M.C.) coming from an iPod on Johnny Damon's speaker system. It was quite unlike the Yankees, who have rarely played music in recent years, and victories in May are not often cause to let loose. But the Yankees were enjoying their blowout, and on some level, they probably knew things could be worse. All they had to do was think about the team down the hall.
From John Hickey in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
"Playing with this team and seeing what is happening around here, I see something beginning to fall apart," center fielder Ichiro Suzuki said. "If I was objectively watching this team and what's been happening, I'd be drinking a lot of beer and booing."All you can say to that is, "What kind of beer?"
"I usually like Japanese beer," Ichiro said. "But after this, I wouldn't care if it was from Japan or from Papua New Guinea."
Nice linkup at the end there btw. Those guys came to hang out at the house I lived in when I was in school in DC; one of my housemates hosted a local Rap video show and had them over for an interview, but they weren't drinking; she came downstairs and asked me if I knew where to get some weed. Hilarious...
I still say they should have signed Bonds. It's a perfect fit. Their offense is pathetic, and their DH is Jose Vidro.
i wish this game wasn't going to be blacked out - i really wanted to see how the moose/joba tandem would look

"Would you like a bag of balls with that?" (Wowzers, can't even get a dozen?)

2 I think after the Mitchell Report, baseball is treating the steroids issue as if it were over... done. Bonds should be playing for someone. But it seems now that 'steroids' is a universally unspoken word, and nobody wants to be the one to break the silence.
I have no doubt the PEDS helped Bond's career and numbers, but he is/was still a great, great baseball player. We may not be aware of it, but every day we watch many ex-PED users play ball, while Bonds sits.
