A few weeks ago, Joe Posnanski ran a fun comparison at his site: Roberto Clemente vs. Al Kaline. I was talking to Jay Jaffe about it and Jay hit the nail on the head when he said, "Clemente the Icon dwarfs Clemente the player." With that in mind, and since the Yanks have the night off, please consider checking out the Clemente American Experience on PBS this evening. I hope it's a good one.

I'll definately watch the documentary when I get home tonight.

Sometimes it seems to me that Clemente is something of an afterthought. Can't really place my finger on why, it's more a gut feeling than anything else.

Great program. I realize the "point" was to tell the story of Roberto the man more than as a baseball HOF'er. Even so, I wish they'd shown those wicked throws he made from eight a bit more, particularly the ones from the '71 World Series.

2 You mean nine? Eight is CF ;)

I my favorite part of the documentary was when one of his friends mentioned that despite his biggest day professionally, his thoughts were with his family and his country.

Also, I hope all those who booed Hawkins for wearing #21 tuned in :)
