Baseball Toaster was unplugged on February 4, 2009.
After tripping up in the first game, the Yankees must to win Game Two in order stay in this series. A loss tonight would spell certain doom for the Bombers. But if the bats keep the same approach they had last night against C.C. Sabathia, you have to like their chances. This could even be one of those games they really blow open. But if they get anxious and swing early in the count, they'll be playing to Fausto Carmona's strength and things could get ugly. After all, we've seen this Yankee team score in bunches this year, and we've also seen them collectively disappear.
Good Andy or Bad Andy, which one shows?
There were no late afternoon shadows to contend with last night. I'm curious is that will hold tonight, or, with the game starting an hour-and-a-half earlier, it'll be an issue during the early innings.
The Indians' closer, Joe Borowski figures to play a role if the game is close. Over at ESPN, Keith Law questioned Eric Wedge's use of Rafael Perez and Rafael Bentancourt in Game One:
Perez might be available for Game 2, but he'll be limited, and there's always a chance he'll be tired. This is flat-out overmanaging, and it doesn't speak well of his faith in his other relief options. If Fultz or Laffey can't come in and get three outs without blowing a six-run lead, they don't belong on the playoff roster.Wedge moved from overmanaging to outright paranoia later in the game, using Lewis with an eight-run lead and Rafael Betancourt -- who has always been less effective when working back-to-back days -- with a nine-run lead in the ninth. If Wedge was saving Joe Borowski for a tighter situation in Game 2, it's a sign he doesn't fully grasp who the best relievers in his bullpen are. There's no reason why he couldn't have used Fultz, Laffey or Tom Mastny to at least lighten the load on his best relievers, keeping them sharp and fully available for Game 2.
Biggest game of the year for the Bombers again tonight. Here's hoping they respond and give us something to be excited about this weekend. Pete Abe's got the line ups.
Let's Go Yan-Kees!
Oh, and just one final note...On the comments section...Most of you are regulars and know each other well. I don't have any problems with anyone using foul language so long as it isn't directed at anyone else who is posting. So long as things don't become personal or vicious, then, obviously do your thing and vent away. For anyone who is new to the comments section, be prepared to deal with a group of passionate (i.e. crazed), short-tempered, New Yorkers, especially if the Yanks are losing. If you are easily offended by crude language, I suggest you to stay away.
That's right.
And I live in Brooklyn, (baby.)
And I'm trying really hard to root for the Yankees tonight because MY friend Nick from Englewood Cliffs (he knows he's not quite from New York, but don't tell him I told you) is a huge fan, the one who probably got me to shut the fuck up and read baseball prospectus.
We've both got great chances of making the ALCS. I remember Game 3 of the ALCS when it was happening. No real job, no girlfriend, but a stock broker friend of mine was trying to hop on the bandwagon then. He got me drunk several times. Good looking out.
Mainly, I just appreciate that apparently you like your Parliament, Alex. The song with the whistling solo on that record, "I Just Got Back (From The Fantasy, Ahead Of Our Time In The Four Lands)" is my favorite on the record.
[A WHISTLE SOLO!]
Go Sox. Go Yanks. Thank God I don't live in Boston because then I would get stabbed for saying that, albeit with a broken beer bottle, meaning I'd have a chance of living.
Oh, and come to the bar anytime. You get whatever the hell you want.
Here's the bar. It's a little like Cheers, but, you know, with black people.

PLASCHKE
Thank you Bronx Banter
Go Boom Boom Betemit
..it hurts, but maybe getting the shit kicked out of you is good sometimes. (Metaphorically.) Work has been doing that to me lately. Fuckin' playoffs:)
..it hurts, but maybe getting the shit kicked out of you is good sometimes. (Metaphorically.) Work has been doing that to me lately. Fuckin' playoffs:)
Good luck Yanks!
Sigh.
Still - let's go Yankees!
2 Any 'head on straight' Red Sox fan who acknowledges RSN is filled with some loonies is a friend of mine, says this Yankee fan.
---
same announcing dorks as yesterday?
Is there a rule against this?
GO YANKS! GO F WORD! GO BANTER!
Damn.
Go Yanks.
rat shit, bat shit, dirty old twat ...
69 assholes tied in a know ...
Yaaaaaaay! Lizard shit! FUCK!
go yankees!!!
that can't be a good sign ... (slinks away)
13 If ever there was a time for Matsui to come through, it's tonight.
Still, some of you sound like you have Tourette's Syndrome above. ;-)
22 Our company's headquarted in LA (I'm in SF) so there goes that...
Proctor/Betemit deal, Yea or Nea for Yankee's?
25 Mostly yea, although it sure would be nice to have EDSP around for the post-season. Other than that, what 26 said.
LET'S GO YANKEES!!!
"It's a different pitcher," he said. "These are the guys who have done it for us."
So, Matsui's starting because there's a different starter on the mound. His logic is beyond comprehension with one hundred percent of your brain.
I'm just curious because I've never witnessed it, but then I don't catch alot of Yankee games.
13 Exactly...why throw Arod a pitch. It looks like Alex is going to have to live with taking his walks or having a repeat of the last two post seasons. That's kind of a shame.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA200709170.shtml
Giambi reached base four times and scored twice, once from second on a single and once from first on a double.
I can hardly wait.
Josh Beckett
Roy Halladay
Jason Hammel
Dustin McGowan
Scott Kazmir
So, an 0-for those games is not entirely unexpected. Maybe he'll snap out of it tonight.
We get the Dodger fans who don't mind Bronx language, and the Red Sox fan who prefers racial diversity?
It's like, oxymoron afternoon.
Oh, Shelley. Duh.
That should set the tone for the coverage nicely.
De-rek Je-ter! (clap clap, clapclapclap)
c'mon andy, quick DP. please!
This is going to be a long night.
78 Yeah, I have ESPN radio too (although right this moment I have silence). It wasn't bad yesterday.
Maybe we can buck the trend today.
Don't you remember the Hideki Matsui 4-3 census?
I was not aware of that....
Sorry, just trying to fit in here. A phrase my dad always used.
Once again, glad to follow this on Gameday instead of on TBS.
He's dressed exactly like Queen Latifah.
Really, just shut up.
We don't want to hear your catcher comments.
I am sure Travis Henry said those words recently too.
EAT IT Indians!
Perfect throw, that`s helped wake me up after the 6am local time start!
So then everybody does. I figured RSN was the only potential Cookophiles.
Grady WHOmore?
hey, that looked like a CMW slider ...
Monotone voice for Yankee HR's. Dead silence, no lie. Orgasmic for Cleveland ground balls.
Wow.
i'm calling another big moment for melky before this one's done ...
got the game on tv here but with radio announcers through ESPN..much better
I would be happier if we could get some men on base when they freakin' hit these home runs.
please, oh please, don't let michaels tie this game.
2 strikes called balls.
he was getting squeezed. any lip readers out there? i could've sworn andy said 'goddammit', which would be very un-christian-like of him...
Argh, I hate this start time, I'm supposed to be at my parents place in Riverdale but didn't want to miss an inning so going after the game.
now, we're nothing but vulgarians here at BB!
;)
Have to say it- I think the guy scores from third if Giambi is playing first there.
...
nice work cap'n.
cmon MVP, bring home the captain!
Matsui's swing is awful. At what point does Joe realize that? His loyalty to Matsui has had a significant negative impact on this game.
I'd seriously consider replacing Matsui with Giambi at DH though...
http://tinyurl.com/22gtmq
Sorry if it's been mentioned. The comments come fast.
i think a-rod will be okay. later this game...
If you stay up late and have slogged through Dick Stockton and Ron Darling, you can witness something that is the opposite of synergy.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7029366.stm
Geez
I don't care Bob.
He says nothing of value.
GOT EEEM!
Now let's get some runs!
"I'm old, its hard for me to strike people out if you give them 4 strikes."
Andy threw roughly 6 strikes there by my count.
Is it just me or does anyone else feel that Robbie is just going to hit and hit and hit in this series?
You should have tried sitting through the Cubs-DBacks game last night. That was deliberate.
Gwynn's man-crush on Pettite does (sort of) make up for the clownish bias of the other guys, at least this game. He's too much of a good guy not to notice that Andy has to throw five strikes (at least) per at bat in order to get a SO this game.
Nice to see Andy doing so well so far.
Carmona is still efficient, but maybe we can get to the bullpen in the... eighth? Even if we don't really get to Fausto?
lmao.
I think after what Carmona went through last year, he's likely not in awe of anybody. He's seen fire and he's rain. And then he saw rainy fire.
And that saves Fausto's pitch count, too, dammit.
We're offering Carmona a CG.
Yes, that's Jake Westbrook. :)
Do you they have a scouting report?
I mean really. Put one in his ear.
Nifty. /sarcasm
=)
Take that, Lofton.
The 11th commandment:
Thou shalt not run on Andrew Pettitte.
So has this ump had a fair strike zone? I started the game off at work.
Does Joe lead off with Shelley?
I haven't left yet, but I will be soon. But I'm also going to a high school football game later.
But I've discovered that driving and posting is really hard to do.
Let the record reflect this Angeleno took public transportation (a train!) to work today.
I live in the Bay Area. I am younger than most on DT, so I am not always working like them.
464 i thought the same thing. definitely not priest at its best...
Which really isn't all that long ago in postseason terms.
I heard Coach Eric Scott was quite impressive today.
No, I was taking joy in A-Rod's performance, because I want him to be a Dodger. I want your dumb media to crucify him even though he is great.
With Carmona below 80 pitches, this run at third is huge. The Yankees simply do not have the manpower to win an extra inning game.
now, a strikeout...
Adny! 2 more...
Stop: Joba Time.
bobby cracking up. now, hit an extra base hit, buddy!
c'mon MVP, now's your time. pick up Andy!
0-5, 2Ks, 3 pop ups...now the whispers are going to get louder. If the Yankees don't win this game, I'll be very worried about Arod on Sunday. Absolutely amazing.
one more 'i heartandy pettitte'
Just no offense.
fucking announcers. fucking fucktard fan boys.
Can't spell a lick, but Peralta can hit.
The Fantastic Four commercial just got me thinking.
Dammit.
it's joba time! i'm wearing my Joba Rules t-shirt. c'mon kid get 2 and keep the lead. thanking you in advance...
Ah, Gutierrez, makes sense.
But he'll strike out. Ain't gonna be no DP.
Ahhhhhh.
Now, was anyone really worried about Gutierrez?
We love baseball. Again.
God it's nice to be dominating.
FUCKEN JOBA!
Wow, this kid is the real deal.
thank you, joba!
Sigh.
i would like to add that every pitcher that has appeared in this series for the yanks is home grown (yes i count vera & ohli). And Mo next, so it will hold for the first 2 game.
What a job by Pettitte. But 6.1 is still a touch short.
You have to be kidding me. Andy pitched his heart out.
Well, not still. They're done for the year. But you know what I mean.
728 pete abe was ragging on a-rod before, too. whatever, you'll have that.
dammit, melk. this is ridiculous...
Uh, any relation??
Holy smoke, our batters really want to end this game asap, huh?
Don's son. Yankees liked him a lot too.
Is it awful for me to say that I pray that Mo doesn't blow this game, given how weak our bats have been?
c'mon joba, hold 'em here, kid. 1-2-3!!!
"But I fear the Indians of Cleveland."
Now if he can get a K, the bunt is nullified and they gave away an out.
Yankees to suffer the seven plagues?
One more Joba.
MY
GOD
Er.
I'll take Dougie M's glovework.
And thank god for that bunt.
it's okay, just sets us up for a killer win.
Now don't think Carmona is like, a big-time bug pitcher or something. This is going to bother him too.
I think you have to take out Joba here...his focus is gone.
When does Lake Erie catch fire again? Ten minutes from now?
Okay, take care of bidness now, Joba, and we can return the buggy favor in the ninth.
Top of the order here. Time for Alex to be the hero.
toaster overheating...
The ladies in the tier below me are getting all grossed out after seeing Joba covered with bugs.
All right boys let's do it up!
But nice job getting out with a tie, Joba.
Come the fuck on, bats!!!!!!!
They really need a run here...and it looks like it is going to come down to you know who.
Fitting.
and yes, here comes arod ... c'mon buddy, do this
we knew it'd come down to this. pretend it's the regular season, alex. win this game. right. fuking. NOW!!!
BTW- Abreu gets down that line as fast as anyone!
Oh, sh*t. A-Rod. Can you script this or what?
A-Rod - time to do your thing!
Now COME ON A-ROD!!!!!
That's a good sinker.
We want a non-out event! =)
you just know lofton is going to get on vs. mo.
this is just terrible. : (
Well, we'll still take him off your hands...
double sigh ...
i would die if the scrub relievers blow this...
if we lose this game Alex is so screwed in the media, and he's not coming back--that may have been the biggest Yankee at bat of the decade....
He wasn't kidding when he said the names on the backs of the jerseys didn't matter to him. Of course, there are no names on the Yankees' jerseys, but I guess the point stands.
Not like everyone else blowing them away.
but i hope we can somehow win this game.
then, i'll be elated...
To complain to TBS use this e mail address:
tbsinfo@turner.com
1030 I hate that man. I thought he was bad on Braves' games vs the Mets. I hadn't seen anything.
GO MO!
Please don't let it be true.
I can't believe they didn't stop the game for these bugs. WTF?
i really hope Big G is leading off. then again, if they bring in Perez, it might be Duncan. i'm fine with that. just score. and win. soon...
But crap, I have to leave soon. C'mon Yanks, score in the top o the 10th!
Of all things.
1064 No fuckin' way. I will become a professional exterminator in the Cleveland area if that happens.
WTF Torre? Pinch hit with Duncan!!!
"never underestimate the power of the pinstripes."
I guess it is not affecting his pitching though.
Or the strike zone.
Of the 6 hits by starters, 3 are HRs. 4 starters have no hits. ARod is 0 for 6 with 2 walks. How much should WE make of it?( although the press will have a field day).
For free.
can`t take the tension...
If you take Juan Pierre in return.
Yankee batters look like last year against the halos.
Second time Jorgie's hit it well to right.
IS it?
Not acceptable, Robby!
Fuck!!!!!
i'm hating this...
I'm preparing myself for an 0-2 deficit.
And I'm usually an optimist.
maybe everyone should come out wearing mosquito netting hats for the next inning.
This is, what, the fourth post season in a row where the Yankees bats have been non-existent?
How did Joe not bring in Duncan for Matsui.
I am so disgusted, did the hitters even show up today?
Not that I'm blaming Joba. He's a rookie. And these bugs are nasty.
By the way, Yankees 18-12 all time in postseason extra-inning games.
Joba looked like a bee keeper...
Yesterday C.C. was off. Walked 6 guys. We had a number of opportunities.
When our #1 pitched like crap, and their #1 and #2 hold you to 8 hits total, ya ain't gonna win.
Joba was fine in the 7th. No bugs. I have no doubt the bugs effected him in the 8th. Tough break. Great performance by Pettitte.... but we are being seriously out-pitched.
Noooooooo!!!!
i am glum.
I meant because of the jinx factor.
Speed? How did that help on the play? Posada threw it away!
The Yanks can't afford for him to be driven out of town too - there are no other catchers in the system for a while.
From wikipedia:
Sizemore graduated from Cascade High School in Everett, Washington, in 2000. A noted high school star in football, basketball, and baseball, Sizemore signed a letter of intent to play football and baseball at the University of Washington. At the time of his high school graduation, Sizemore was Cascade's all-time leader in rushing yards with 3,081 yards and interceptions with 16
Fuck.
Mo gets out of this. book it. but too many pitches for 11th?
Why not a home run by Minky?
Well what do you know.
On a positive note, I am 10 minutes away from finishing my download of the beta for Hellgate:London.
I really hope the game keeps me occupied until April.
BTW, that was one hellova bat by Sizemore....
there is the chance viz doesn't give it up. just 1 inning...
Intentionally walking the guy in this situation is almost always a bad idea.
C'mon Mo - we need this.
total bollocks!
Christ, this is NOT what we needed Mo!!!!
BTW - THIS IS WHY YOU NEVER EVER EVER INTENTIONALLY WALK A GUY IN A TIE GAME.
still a chance
Mo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ex-fucking-hale!
we'll see Viz next, methinks...
c'mon people with bats, now is the time for your glory ... mo can't do it by himself
This game is making me nauseaus!!!
The shitty umpiring that has plagued MLB this year has GOT to be dealt with. Of course, Bud would rather waste his time on trying to figure out who used steroids in 2001. Fucking asshole.
And Mo said - Lo, fear not, for I am Mo, and they shall not score on me.
But the Banter said - can you promise the same for Vizcaino? And Farnsworth?
That inning literally gave me heart palpatations.
Please, JUST WIN!
The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when --.......
(b) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball;
If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.
And Mo said - Lo, I make you no promises about Vizcaino or Farnsworth. But Shelley will hit, and you will be contented.
And there was much cheering on the Banter!
I can't help but agree with you another thing about him is that he doesn't seem to expand to much energy, I guess that's why he's been able to do it for so long, yanks are very fortunete to have a Mariano Rivera to bail them out for ALL THESE YEARS.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txyankeessheppard&prov=st&type=lgns
Where are Sliced and RIYank? I figured I'd get one of there attention with the Biblical Mo stuff.
;-P
Up to Damon now. Who's warming in the pen? I don't think TBS has bothered to show or say, but I have it on mute.
uckfay-ouyay, TBS!
Slider down and away.
Got a plane to catch, Laz?
I can't believe I just typed that.
Yeah william, its too late.
Let's go YANK-ees!
great umping blue. this is fucking sorry. where'd the huge zone go?
No worries.
I can't believe I'm even having this conversation.
I can't believe this.
and now boston is already winning. goddamn this season has turned to shit quick...
*Upside is code for walks the ballpark
Suddenly I feel strangely calm.
And to answer your question - not that I can think of. But I bet Steven Goldman would know for sure.
Game over soon - thanks Viz.
shoot me
That it should all come to this.
I can't believe I have tickets to game 4 and I won't even get to go to a game.
a non-noodle arm in left...
How many times this year did Viz intentionally walk a guy, and then walk the next guy? IIRC, at least twice, maybe three times.
I can't fucking believe this.
1408 ssssh! don't say that. You're going! I know it's not easy, but keep positive (when the fuck did I become Deepak Choprah?)
I'm actually optimistic for our rotation next year: Wang, Pettitte, Joba, Hughes and Kennedy/Moose.
Three good, young arms should lessen reliance on a shaky bullpen.
Or better still, a pb or wp!
In fact, I will fall over myself praising you.
An INFIELD FLY is a fair fly ball (not including a line drive nor an attempted bunt) which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort, when first and second, or first, second and third bases are occupied, before two are out.
CMON VIZCAINO - ONE MORE STRIKE!
In the stomach.
last pitch...
Great being here with all of you.
We worked so hard.
We've come so far.
excruciating
This blows. This fucking blows. Fucking Indians.
I can't stand to see them celebrate.
Wow.
well, we did come back two down to Oakland that time...but....
i can't believe we're on the brink of elimination. soooo frustrating...
This team has got to have one more comeback left in it. I hope.
Joe talking to media on YES postgame now..
It's Friday night. Time to start drinking straight through until Sunday afternoon.
Great Joe...why bother thinking about Sunday. Of course, knowing Joe, he'll bat Arod 8th but let Matsui keep grinding out outs.
It is just so laughable that even when Joe pushes the most obvious buttons and the players fail him, it somehow comes down to manufacturing a reason he is to blame...including concocting some reason like an insignificant minor leaguer who should have been placed on the roster.
I think he's gone once we lose the series, but your nihilistic blame-game with him is absurd.
Oh please oh please oh please.
Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: [whispering] Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [runs out, alone; then returns] What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer -
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let's do it.
Bluto: LET'S DO IT!!
Joe: We'll look at it.
Gee, thanks Joe.
I guess Melky and Minky proved their worth tonight. Maybe Matsui should sit.
All year, the Torre supporters have turned a blind eye, and once again we are facing a first round exit. Maybe that's just fine to you, but I want a manager who actually gives his team a better chance.
Still, it's depressing to have two of the very top relievers in baseball, and then everyone else is really horrible.
We ALL know that.
We had hope... and the fat Lady has not sung yet.
We are sooooooooo fortunate that somehow, out of an absolutely dry farm we have:
Wang, Cano, Melky, Hughes, Joba, IPK and a number of other arms that should come through.
It was an amazing run to get to where we are now.
Our pitching was in the BOTTOM HALF of the leauge this year.
Next year will be a different story.
The Farm brought us Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Mo and Bernie. Then, for 10 years, Steinbrenner trashed it.
It is amazing that Cashman has produced such a fine 2008 team.
We have a great team. But not enough pitching.
Lets see if Roger can live up to the legend tomorrow.
And if you think about it, winning this series is not as long a shot as you might think. We need three straight -- well, we took three straight from the Indians this season. Twice.
For games Three and Four, we're favorites. Home field. Weak Cleveland starters.
We're underdogs, but I won't be shocked if we take this thing.
Matsui over Giambi is questionable.
I actually thought Wedge managed badly. Though Perez for two innings, wow, that took guts, and it worked.
#%$@#%)(#$%^%$^!!!!
Hey, I've talked myself into this! I'm looking forward to it!
Wedge didn't really have to do much, other than PH Gutierrez once Pettitte was out. And stick with Carmona for the ninth.
You are a piece of work man and I have never seen someone live in hindsight as much as you. Everything is perfect until the moment failure hits with you. If Torre did this then he should've done that, and if he does that he shoulda done this.
I know he makes mistakes but you aren't going to find a flawless manager. You are just setting yourself up for eternal baseball depression with your outlook. If that's the way you want to be then knock yourself out. I'll try and not stand in your way, but sometimes I can't help it. Now proceed with the bashing, hating, pessimism, etc...
If the bats don't wake the fuck up, we're going nowhere. Where's the steamroller that we had in September! Damn we had the Sux fans in full-on panic mode!
Makes me want to smoke cigarettes again. Damn.
But of course, why consider the complexities of decision making regarding the post season roster when it's so much easier to blame Joe?
William, you make some good points and I agree with you as much as I disagree despite your pessimism. But you are simply irrational in the degree of blame you place on Torre. I don't like many of his decisions and really don't care if he's gone after this year, but I refuse to give the players a pass for non-performance because I'm not blinded by hatred for a single individual.
Again, you'll get your wish when he gets the boot soon. Pardon me if I'm not celebrating with you because I'm so disappointed with the performance of our hitters, and don't see how a different manager makes that much of a difference in the short term.
I think this pretty much sums it up -
"F*CKING BUGS!"
Oh, I know, but he threw two innings yesterday too! That's what I meant.
And with that, I'm out. Hopefully Sunday brings us a better day.
Alex: "I thought I was the right man at the right time. I was excited about the situation."
Sounds defensive. It's in his head.
Fuck.
William, another reason why your bashing is irrational is because you're not going to find a flawless manager. They all manage a certain way and no doubt whoever is the Yankee manager, will have you pulling your hair out. My advice? Deal with it, because its not going to get any easier on you. But like I said, if you enjoy the pessimistic outlook, go for it.
And yes, I really am leaving now. I promise.
(I'm no psychologist, though.)
I mean, has he ever said that before? "I thought I was the right guy at the right time?"
I don't know, it was just my gut reaction. It sounded a bit scripted.
If they are so great watch what the Red Sox do to them next round. I'm tired of excuses being made for this team. This team is old and tired. It's time to put it out to pasture. And honestly, to many who take up this roster, Good Riddance I say.

I know that the level of pitching is better in the playoffs, but the Yankees seem to struggle against EVERYBODY lately, whether it's Sabathia (against whom they couldn't break through, despite having chances), Carmona, Justin Verlander, an injured Curt Schilling, and even a junkballer like Kenny Rogers. I mean, is the opposing pitching ALWAYS that good? At what point do you stop giving credit to the opposition pitcher and start looking inward at some deeper problem?
I don't expect the Yankees to score six runs a game against Indians pitching, but eight hits and four runs in 19 innings? And this from a lineup with three legitimate All-Stars, perhaps a fourth if we include Cano, and capable vets like Matsui and Abreu and Damon.
It's not that I have an answer, but if a team can be said to have a four-year slump in the postseason, then this Yankee team is doing it. It is bewildering, to say the least.
Excellent question.
--Girardi on Sunday's game plan.
I guess it's doable, if we can score maybe 10 runs off of Westbrook.
Or get two a piece from JobaMo.
All right, it's just one game. Sunday's game. Let's win that one and go from there.
Not that they were an excuse, of course, but just so weird that an onset of bugs would wreak so much havoc. Then again, bugs or not bugs, we're still not hitting. Hope Westbrook is the antidote on Sunday.
It wasn't the Red Sox or the Angels or the Indians that did us in. It wasn't the bullpen or the rookies.
It was motherfucking insects and the best lineup I've ever seen get shut down in an embarassing way.
Yeah, Carmona pitched the game of his life tonight. But to see the Yankees lose a game where the only run they gave up in 11 god damn innings was because of those motherfucking pieces of shit that clung to Joba's neck, well, that just hurts.
Pettitte, Mo, and Melky. Thank god for our farm system.
It's not over. They came back down 0-2 in '01. But now the season rests in the hands of "Hasn't pitched in weeks" Clemens and "I'll probably suck" Mussina. Yahoo.
I told myself last year I wouldn't get as worked up, and I'm not. There are millions and millions of fans who aren't fortunate enough to watch their teams in the playoffs, and I'm just thankful we got here after that horrendous start.
But this game still kills.
Good pitching beats good hitting. We get it now. We'll have good pitching all the time in a couple years.
Fuck.
(Oh, sorry Dodger fans. Codswallop.)

Tough game, we'll get 'em in the next three. This team has played from behind all year. They'll do it again... they better.
G'night all.

(Codswallop?)
I'm frustrated as hell, but it's beyond anger now. I was angry for the past three seasons. Now, I realize that I shouldn't expect anything.
"I will say only thisthis team did an amazing thing just to make the postseason. For that reason, I had no expectations of anything good happening should the team get there, since I thought even playing in October would be a victory after April and May.
Which is the only reason why I'm not sucking down Drano right now..... "

Game by game.
Sunday's our game.
The sticks will show up.
"If this season ends Sunday, that's the end of Joe Torre and probably the end of Alex Rodriguez in pinstripes as well. He'll take his MVP and look for a clean start.
That could also mean Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera walk, too. Do not underestimate their loyalty to Torre. Think the Mets might want Posada?
Ron Guidry walks without Torre in charge. So might Larry Bowa and Tony Pena. By Monday morning, we could be looking at the start of massive changes."
Long Trail.
Yum.
However, he's been terrible in Yankee Stadium his entire career.
Yanks aren't dead yet, as long as they stay relaxed and try not to hit a seven-run homer on every swing in game 3, they'll win. Pitch Wang in game 4, they'll win. It's up for grabs then.
And Cutter-brand bug spray will develop a new anti- midge- gnat- Canadian soldier- flying ant spray and everything will come up roses in game 5. (What terrible product placement for Off, it didn't work at all.)
CLE-COL would be an outstanding World Series IMO.
If I don't swear off baseball forever first!
Good for them.
I'm getting the most horrible flashbacks right now. Derek Lowe, Curt Schilling, Kenny Rogers. All pitchers the recent Yankees collapsed against in the playoffs. Dear god, please don't let Westbrook or Byrd join that list.
some day, Joba and Phil will do to teams what Carmona and Sabathia just did to ours. But they'll be even better.
