Roger Clemens gave the Yankees pretty much what anyone could have expected from him yesterday: six innings, three runs, couple of walks and seven strikeouts. His fastball is not up to snuff yet and he worked too many deep counts, but his split-fingered fastball was excellent and he looked just fine fielding his position. The Yankee offense did the rest, with a generous hand from some Bad News Bears fielding by the Pirates; Melkawitz made a fine catch in center field and the Yanks cruised, 9-3.
That makes it five straight for the Bombers who go for the sweep this afternoon against our old pal, Shawn Chacon. It is great that the Yanks have won another series but it will be a real buzz-kill if they don't sweep the Pirates. So on that note...
Let's Go Yan-Kees!
It feels good to have Clemens back. Gotta feel good about a rotation that is basically Wang, Pettite, Moose, Clemens, and Clippard/Hughes. I like it.
I know that pitching rotations aren't deliberately manipulated to screw a particular team, but is anyone else annoyed the Dback. Brandon Webb isn't pitching against the sawx, but will pitch against the Yanks?
Anybody know who's pitching for the D-Backs on Thursday? I have tickets...
5 I'll second that. Please Joe, no house $ lineup.
Derek Jeter SS
Bobby Abreu RF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Hideki Matsui LF
Robinson Cano 2B
Melky Cabrera CF
Miguel Cairo 1B
Wil Nieves C
The dislike between Yankee and Dback management is well known dating back to the David wells signing in his second tour of NY. Also, the steep price demanded for the big useless in 2004 was part of that.
As for the welfare queens, the analogy fits. They get a welfare check based on the luxury tax, refuse to put that money into their team, and refuse to adapt while teams in harder divisions with lesser ballparks (the A's and twins) thrive. Even while they refuse to spend money and cash those checks their fans complain about the yankees when they should complain about the bozos running their team. Yeah, they're welfare queens and you're too mentally myopic to understand that. I'm not scared of them, I pity them.
Christ--Mosaic is hanging already!
Boy, Obi-Shawn looks like he's put on a few pounds. He looks a lot bigger than I remember him.
By the way, I really do hate the collision play at home.
Nieves ... it's the new Mendoza!
who is this home plate umpire he's insanely inconsistent
The new version of MLB.com's Gameday application, then called Enhanced Gameday, was first unveiled in time for the 2006 post season. That version was the first to weave into the display the PITCHf/x data used to show the speed, location, and trajectory of each pitch. Previously, the location data was displayed after it was entered manually by operators of the Gameday application in the press box. The PITCHf/x technology was developed by Sportvision, the company that began with tracking hockey pucks in 1996, and later gave us the "1st & Ten" yellow lines so familiar to football viewers. Gameday has been in use for Major League games since 2001. In short, the system relies on three cameras installed at the ballpark that triangulate on each pitch at 30 frames per second. Three computers in a truck outside the park then process the data and calculate the various data points the system tracks, including the position, velocity, and acceleration of the ball. The cameras and software know where to look for pitches (actually they look for objects traveling between 40 and 120 mph), since when the system is first installed a virtual grid is laid down at each park marking home plate and the pitcher's mound.
It's good not to strike out!
Oh, Alex, why not a sac fly there????
Glad I could amuse in absentia!
Nice hit, Alex, btw. Better than sac fly, to be sure, but a sac fly is so much better than a K, backwards or otherwise.
Oh well, at least the bases aren't all clogged up anymore.
Where have you gone, Matt DeSalvo, a fan base turns its lonely eyes to you...
that's probably it for henn today
Well, not the best pitching today. We get to see if Henn lives up to his long-man training. He needs not to walk so many guys.
i fully expect you all to will (not wil) us to victory through purity of essence and proper bullpen usage
expect the worst if you do not ...
#1 - I feel like I have already watched 2 games already. Geez... is this long or what?
#2 - I have seen that goat afflack commercial about 45 times. Just me?
151 he just isn't being overused perhaps?
i have no idea why you call him notrandy. we didn't do a straight up trade viz for randy.
Holy carp, A-Rod!!
little hat. And little pants.
Willow: (smiles) Yeah, I-I see!
Oz: The monkey's the only cookie animal that gets to wear clothes, you
know that?
Willow smiles brightly.
Oz: You have the sweetest smile I've ever seen.
Willow is surprised by the compliment.
Oz: (continues down the hall) So, I'm wondering, do the other cookie
animals feel sorta ripped? Like, is the hippo going, 'Hey, man, where
are my pants? I have my hippo dignity!'
Willow laughs.
Oz: And you know the monkey's just, (with a French accent) 'I mock you
with my monkey pants!'
Willow laughs more.
Oz: And there's a big coup in the zoo.
Willow: The monkey is French?
Oz: All monkeys are French. You didn't know that?
Willow: No. (giggles)
185 was just teasing. i'me sure your cool.
All I can say is thank goodness for Abreu and Alex.
Wil wonders Nieves cease?
Very situational.
Clap . . . clap . . . clap.
Now, who would you have pitch?
I don't mind Proctor getting another inning, actually, though I would have inserted Farns or Villone. One of them had better pitch the ninth.
We've all had this discussion before, but there must be some cut off point when pitching say three or four innings every two or (preferably) three days is not as bad as pitching one inning every day (or four out of five, etc).
Villone is warming--I say pull Meyers after this lefty batter.
: )
OK, six in a row and a day off. Until Tuesday...
Is there any way Cairo could play first and shortstop?
HA!!!
Other than getting pounded by the bombers, the welfare queens have enjoyed their stay in the south Bronx flop house that they rented. It's one of those places where you always find pork rinds on your pillow. Big Stein will drop off the welfare check before they catch that Q33 bus to La Guardia.
Do I smell another 10 game win streak? Remember those happy days? It was almost exactly 2 years ago.
Now bring on some real competition!
Win 10 in a row, lose 2 of the next 3, then win the next 5. Of course, then came the 6 game losing streak, but that's for neither here nor there ;).

weird how it feels so good.
keep rooting for the Yanks.
Thats as much as I'll say.
I agree about the pirates. But having to play the yankees for 10 more days would just be unfair. cruel and unusual punishment.
Has anyone acknowledged that the team in present incarnation has stepped up tremendously? In the unfortunate circumstances that has removed Giambi and Scrabble from the lineup (and especially the manner in which Scrabble was removed from the lineup), the rest of the team has suddenly gone into FLAME-ON mode, and as much as I want to say it's because it has come against inferior competition, the last game against Boston in which Mo schooled their best hitters up unto today with thankfully spirited offense from Bobby and Alex, I am more inclined to think that the players have found roles for themselves where they know they can relax and contribute the most. With Joe not having to plug in bad options to soothe egos or justify contracts so much, his decisions have panned out nicely, even if they still involve some controversy (Moose)... I like this and truly hope that the team has found a way to relax and be themselves, be it rallying around fallen comrades or just sticking it to all the haters. I dunno if there's a statistic for this, but I'm sure someone here would be willing to provide that >;)
