In case you hadn't heard, Roger Clemens is pitching for the Yankees today. I'm not convinced that he's going to stay healthy this summer. My hunch is that he'll post a record close to .500--maybe 8-6, maybe 7-9--with an ERA under 4.50. Regardless, the Yankees look to extend their season best winning streak this afternoon on a hazy day in the Bronx.
Let's Go Yan-Kees!
Weather in the Bronx, anyone?
Am I missing something? Maybe Fox will decide to broadcast the Yanks after all......
Wow... we were SO excited to get Clemens. Now, he is a .500 +/- pitcher, who may not even give us 4 months? And for this, poor George pays $18 million?
What an amazing owner George is. No one in their right mind would pay so much for so (relatively) little. We are lucky to have someone who wants to win, and puts his money where his mouth is.
I wonder what the RS or Houston would have paid for Roger.
And how many here think George told Roger something to the effect of "win me a WS before I die"?
Fox switched to 3:30 games for this season. No idea why, but I assume ratings. If they were as flexible as ESPN, they'd probably try to show the Clemens game-- but they're not. And, besides, Mets/Tigers is far more relevant at this point than Yankees/Pirates (though obviously the presence of Clemens alters that equation somewhat).
Blackout rules suck, though. No question.

I even set it up last night, but for some reason I can't get it to work. Maybe I forgot how to do it.

Bobtaco, Vandelay??
Check now.
You know he has that 'Rocket' nickname, right? That's gotta be good.
skiguy at alum.dartmouth.org
Nope, a pussy is someone who begs to go back and pitch in the worst division in baseball.

thanks

It worked for a number of Saturdays, but is NOT working now. Its possible that MLB 'fixed this'.
BUMMER!
If anyone here has a 'working link', would they please speak up? So I/we know if the magic is gone.
36 Monkeypanks.... can you copy the URL in your WORKING MLB address line and send it to me (address in 3). Maybe that will work.
Sorry guys. I'm in the same sinking boat as you.
I sent it to both.
Check now.
I also think George told Roger that he didn't have much time left and wanted win another championship before the end.
I think because we are both in Cali. You know, easy going and laid back?
And why isn't this game on anywhere outside of NY? Can't imagine Fox or ESPN passing up a big hoopla game like this.
Change yesterdays date to todays, to get the LIVE linescore.

Even if you believe the A.L. is the superior league, it's ignorant in the extreme to call the N.L. West the worst division. At the very least, it's the best division in its own league.
Double click on the game you want and it shifts to single game mode; then click on "full screen view" to get rid of all the stats, etc. If your game is not one of the six, double click on the game score on the bar at the top and drag it to one of the six game screens.
Did that make any sense at all?
Mosaic is really slow and wonky, but when it works it gives the best full screen view (better than quicktime, whose aspect ration never matches the shape of your computer or TV screen.
Too many pitches, but otherwise Clemens is looking pretty good.
Where are you?
Send me an Email, address in 3
Looks like a 4 inning pitcher today.
I was thinking DeSalvo if it was early, but of course he isn't on the roster.
I'm afraid that the first reliever's name will begin with a 'V'.
Whichever route is further from the wall. You'd think the wall was made of concrete. He avoids the wall like Anna Nicole Smith avoided monogomy.
It really is funny how Gary Sheffield misses the fact that he is no more than an employee. And I defy him to find me an employer who doesn't attempt to control his/her employees.
Or maybe its the hip hop ambiguous idea of "disrespect" or maybe what Sheffield did was "snitching." Go get him 50 Cent!
He is just angry that Rawlings wont make him a white glove with pinstripes.
One more for Roger?
Lets hope Posada has some Drano.
The K's: that's the best part, for sure.
"Brian, remember when we said that maybe you could take Kyle's place?"
"Yeah, oh yeah Jorgie, I remember."
"Well, we didn't mean that you were supposed to walk two guys."
"Oh... I just thought... Oh, man. Sorry, Jorgie."
Man, what a terrible swing.
Post hoc, ergo Proctor hoc for the 8th, right?
An inning of beauty.
I love our offense these days. Love it.
170 He sure did. And quietly, you'd have to say. Guy can mash. But, obviously, way off this year.
I'd leave Bruney in for the eighth. Otherwise, well, think about the ninth...
Just get the job done, Alex. Grandslams are nice and all, but I'll take the standard-issue sac fly every time.
Consistency.
Fuck.
Of course, there's Melky's way to do it, too, with a hard hit, but those are overrated.
Just as the YES crew are talking up fundamentals, Melky goes the other way and the Pittsburgers throw the ball around!
Ha!
Another run, yay.
Ha!
Phelps like play by LaRoche on that one!
Both.
Anyway, the point is the same, which is that he got the runs in despite getting the big hit, and I appreciate that.
I'm applauding him for not striking out or popping up.
We're playing very, very solid baseball and they're not.
But we've been in a position to capitalize on their sloppiness, something that wasn't the case a couple of weeks ago.
You can do it!
Or, hmm, a five run lead... maybe he has learned. Hmmm.
This represents a rea; challenge for Lord Farnswacker of Suckinghamshire. How fast can he get the tying run to the plate for Pittsburgh?
Still, better than DeSalvo - that's what we have to keep telling ourselves...
Good, a 5 lead for Proctor, at least. That's safe.
Kay talks a lot because he finds the sound of his voice so pleasing.
Case in point, Al gets finished talking about the difference between guys like Clemens and Mariano on the one hand, who have great command, and guys like Farnworth on the other, who don't, talking about things like mechanics and release point, actually explaining a term ("throwing downhill") we hear all the time but don't often know what it means... and Kay follows that up with "That's a nice blue shirt you have on. And a nice tie."
Jorgie's still my favorite, but Cano is awfully fun to watch.
So, uh, isn't anyone going to ask me what I meant by 232?
Or you mean he was born on 2nd and thought he hit a double?
This will be positive reinforcement for Joe. V-pitcher in mop-up situation, relaxing, easy, like sipping tea. Everyone feels good. Do that again.
I hope Normandin is watching this game.
Slow start this season aside, I think Cano will end up hitting close to what he hit last a season, maybe not as high an average but over .300 and with significantly more walks. There will definitely be more that a .030 difference btwn his ba and obp I'd say. If I had to guess, I'd say a .315/.365/.500 line for Robby this season.
No Carp Tonight!
HA!
BTW- the strut...a la Tony Manero...It's coming back...
Is that really 5 in a row? Ha!
I'd argue with your final line, but he's been mashing in summer his whole (short) career, and he's turning around now.
I think Leiter brings a lot to the broadcast.
I don't think he talks nonsense at all. Platitudes sometimes, to be sure, but he usually acknowledges them as such.
He's a smart guy and I learn from him.
263 You don't need 50 walks to add .50 to OBP! Only about 30, usually.
We've been taking the bird in the hand and it does my heart good.
But yes, it's nice to not have to rely on some fireworks in the ninth inning for every win finally. Little things early on have been saving us from having to scrap at the end.
:)
Cano will never be Abreu, but he has already got 11 bbs this season, after only 18 all last year. And he seeing about 3.4 p/pa compared to 3.22 last yr and 3.05 his rookie year. Bb/pa up to .045 from .036 last season. His ba and obp were separated by 40 pts coming into today. He's learning. I could see him drawing 35 walks this season, and maybe 50 next year. Baby steps to be sure, but . . .
If that's good enough for a .360+ OBA without a .330+ AVG, I'm on board.
Anyone want to guess how many walks he had last year? 18 -- he might have hit 20 if he played the whole year.
But Jose Reyes is walking a whole lot more than he used to. So let's get Rickey Henderson in here to teach Robbie how to take a pitch. ;)
Right now if Robbie is an 800 OPS 2nd basemen, he would rank 5th in the AL and 11th in the MLB. Almost everyone ranked above him has twice his number of walks.
And he seemed like the type to swing at intentional walks.
Cano also might improve by eliminating the initial cruddy part of his season. If you look at just his Aprils and Mays, you'd think he was, well, Cairo.
I think he had about 18 his rookie year too, didn't he?
Oh, and was it his rookie year where it took like 3 months before he got his first one?
Who says Joe can't manage his bullpen??
We'll see how long it lasts--this season he's on pace for about 45.
A few players have dramatically improved patience, like Sammy Sosa. I wonder how much has to do with improved patience, and how much should be attributed to the development of more power compelling opposing pitchers to pitch around them more. Even Soriano occasionally did not swing at pitches far off the plate. Sometimes.
286 Proctor got the win on Thursday
But how many people don't miss Soriano? Last year, in a pitcher's park, he hit 46 homers, stole 41 bases and had 41 doubles.
Man that's impressive. His 941 OPS now would look pretty good in our lineup in the 8th spot. Of course he is 31.
Here's hoping that Cano continues to develop patience and power! He is only 24 after all.
In June, the Yanks have 902 OPS while opponents are 760.
In June, we have 6 guys with an OPS over 900! Wow. Abreu leads the bunch with a June OPS of 1253.
Ok. So, we've won six out of seven and Scottie pitched in two of those. Not quite as amazing.
It's nice to have the Rocket going. The Draft worked out pretty well with lots of B.A. top 200 guys in the mid rounds, some value at the top plus we're winning and moving. Life is getting to be good again.
Man, those Pirates are one awful team. Among other things, I was shocked at the number of basic, fundamental mistakes they make - mental errors, errors in judgment, and so on. Usually firing the manager doesn't matter to a really bad team, but when they execute the basics that terribly, I think it's called for.
Those double steals were sweet.
if the sox lose, the yanks will be less than 10 back for the first time in a while.
We MUST sweep tomorrow if we think we're for real.
The double steals were sweet.
It's funny you should say it wasn't pretty, because I actually thought it was quite pretty. Lots of good execution, productive outs, 9 runs without the benefit of a dinger, solid enough pitching, defense was solid (nice plays by Melky and Arod) with a couple of DP.
Aside from Cairo not getting that bunt down, I really had no complaints.
What did you have in mind?
Other than Cairo not getting
Shame the Metsies went down today.
I mean, if he gets stronger or whatever, fine, but his swing is what it should be, I'd hate for him to start thinking about that rightfield porch again or something that gets him away from banging the ball all over the joint.
would you rather hear about el fluffo.. the yanks....towel boy....
