It is an overcast, brisk spring day in New York. The sun is trying to peak out. Kei Igawa is on the hill for the Yanks this afternoon. Time for the bats to bomb away.
After three games:
Red Sox fans: Hopeful.
Yankee fans: Disgusted.
Once again, ya gotta love ESPN for their thoughtful, BALANCED coverage. From their website:
"Inept Mussina mauled as O's smash Yanks"
"Mussina mauled as Orioles turn fortunes against Yanks"
Inept? Mauled? Did anyone set Contraras the other day? He just 'Lost'.
And for the best news:
"Mike Mussina lasted only four innings against Baltimore, which makes 2007 the first time in Yankees history that their starting pitcher failed to throw at least five innings in each of the team's first three games of a season"
4 In Jeter's defense (no pun intended), I don't think what we've seen over the past three games has been an accurate picture of his defensive abilities. Even fielders can slump, and I think that's what's going on here. He may still be in inferior fielder at his best, but mental mistakes and poor throws have never been an issue with him, though they've been so thus far this week.
4 like Cliff says, jeter's play this week is a different issue entirely from the debate over his general defensive abilities. He just looks off compared to how he usually plays shortstop.
I love how the Orioles announcers make it seem like the Yanks and O's are these HUGE rivals. That idiot Buck Martinez also pointed out that the Birds surely have the Yanks' attention after last night's game. Give me a freaking break.
Dear God... Yanks-O's, Igawa versus STEVE TRACHSEL?! The length of this game is going to set all kinds of records...
A lot of guys share the Human Rain Delay nickname, but nobody earned it like Trachs. I've always suspected that the new rule limiting time between pitches was designed specifically with him in mind.
woohoo. I also temporarily forgot about how to get mlbtv to work. got it and at the higher resolution. What do folks think of the higher resolution feed? Seems smoother for me. Not just the picture, but the actual feed. (That is probably due to my change from verizon dsl to comcast cable internt).
So who is first out of the pen today? They used Henn, now who is the long man?
That is a good question, why isn't Hughes already up? Don't the Devel Rays have more than 6 guys on their roster younger or the dsame age as Hughes? Treat him like a fragile egg, and he will perform like a fragile egg.
109 In the minors, I think so, but I'd rather not see him until later this year. That's what my head says. My heart says "AUGH! QUEST, you're killing me!"
Actually, my brother went there too. It is not a bad school, I just don't like the football team (especially since they have won the last five iron bowls).
Not that I WANT to see commercials on MLB.TV, but considering how money hungry they are, aren't they losing a LOT of advertising revenue (like millions and millions)?
Not to mention they, my bro included, seem to have blacked out the whole scandal from a few years back. Wht can't I get a job at that car dealership. I am actually a WVU fan, so life has been pretty good the past few years. We did actually beat the SEC Champ two years ago.
What ever happened to your QB who came out that year? I liked that kid and thougt he would perform well in the NFL.
You know what I'm pissed about? I haven't seen one, no less 14, articles picking Alex apart for wearing high socks. NOW HOW SICK IS THAT? What is wrong with his head?
Hmm. Maybe the Yanks should go about this diferently, and just start the game with relievers going four or five innings, then turn to the 'starters' depending on the score.
Didn't the 98 team have a similarly poor start? Far too early to panic, but this is still tough to watch. I mean, it's Steve Trachsel for God's sake. They can hit this guy, can't they?
OK.... I'm sorry for babbling... but 4 games at home, against 2 of the worst teams in the league? Is this the curse of bootlegged MLB.TV? The curse of no-more-sleepovers-at-Jeters-house? The curse of Japanese sloppy seconds?
137 Yeah, those guys have selective memory down there.
If you are a WVU fan you were probably not too happy with us for trying to get your coach. I never really thought he would leave Morgantown (especially to come to Alabama). I think Rodriguez is a very good coach, but I don't think he would have been happy in Tuscaloosa. Hopefully, for us, Saban will do a good job. He has already gotten some of our rotund linemen into shape.
Good luck with Saban. For your sake I hope he performs. I, for one, don't think much of Saban, either personally or as a coach. I thought Bama could have made a much better choice, but big time SEC football schools seem to prefer names over substance.
What happened to Matsui?
Is this where Joe pinch runs for Giambi....lol....?
We have no bench. I hope Phelps does well. I am just happy I dont have to argue with folks like last year, who thought Andy Phillips was a baseball player.
179 Still, if Damon is not healthy enough to PH and then go into to CF, then he should be put on the DH. Once again (like last year with Sheff), the refusal to DH a player leaves the team plaing a man short--a particularly dangerous situation any time Cairo is in the vicinity.
167169 Ouch, first you bring up Auburn. Then you tell me you don't like Saban (I actually understand that one) now you have to dog my boy Andy Phillips. What's next, you gonna say something bad about Bear Bryant? ;-)
Naaaa, I have fond memories of Bear. I am sure this will make you even more unhappy, but I actually really enjoy watching SEC games, and am pulling for you guys to become more competitive, but I am really pulling for Spurrier and South Carolina. Blasphome I'm sure.
But seriously, Andy Phillips, come on man. He should be selling insurance with Tommy Maddox.
188 Better, DH retroactive and keep the BP, at least until someone goes six or seven. Eerily, Igawa may have just had the best start so far--at least he went 5.
191 come on, that's not fair. Bernie i not a better option than Melky, which is the only roster spot he would be fighting for. Unless Bernie can play 2b (Cairo) or 1b (Phelps), it would be even worse to have him in the roster.
Point taken. However, we do not need a DH who is fully capable of playing 1B making 21 milllion. We have three guys at 1B for no reason. Not to mention that Giambi's BA is much higher when he plays defense! WE do not need Doug M. and Phelps. We can always pick up a defensive 1B later in the year.
Could this be some kind of systematic problem? As in, it's not that the pitchers suck, it's just that they weren't ready because of a poor spring training? I mean, I didn't expect them to dominate or anything, but no one saw this coming.
187 I actually like Spurrier more now than I did when he was at Florida. I didn't even mind it when the rumors were flying that Bama was trying to get him as our coach.
As for Andy, you might be right. However, as I have said in other threads, he did have a couple of great months last summer. I will also admit that I see his Yankee career through Crimson colored glasses.
BTW, you asked about former Bama quarterback Brodie Croyle earlier. He might get his shot this year at Kansas City. Let's just hope he does more with that shot than Andy did last year with the Yanks.
195 The defense has hurt all of them. Andy and Pavano each lost 3 outs to errors, and even when plays haven't been ruled errors, they've been pretty ugly.
200 Well, Igawa has been bad too, but if Mora's pop-up lands five feet away from where it did in any direction, he's spared three runs from his line and maybe is still pitching.
Croyle, that's right. I happen to think he is going to a solid to excellent NFL quarterback. I know there wasn't that much hype arond him given the others that came out that year, but I watched him closely, and think he has the tools to succeed in the NFL. College is not the same, and he has the skills you need in the NFL. But what do I know, there are people out there who still think Eli Manning and Matt Lienart are QB's. Go figure. I am really curious to see if theRaiders take Russell, as they should, or blow it again and take a clown like Quinn.
202 Fair enough, but that is pretty inflexible roster-wise. At least in Boston Youkillis can sorta play 3B. The Yankees are trying to cut things too fine: a 12 man staff b/c they have Meyers, a full-time DH, two 1B (one apparently for defense?), a no-hit super sub, and and a no-hit back-up C. Thus, if just about anything goes wrong, the team is hamstrung (no pun intended).
Giambi has exponetially more games played at 1B than Ortiz over the last three seasons. Ortiz is a DH who doesn't want to play 1B. Giambi is a 1B who doesn't want to simply DH.
207 I absolutely agree. But:
1) This is Giambi, circa 2007. What do you do, dump him?
2) While Cairo is not good, this is why we need him.
3) How many innings did Myers pitch last year? And how effective was he against lefties anyway? With all our young power arms, I say dump Myers and get a real player for our bench.
The other question is how bad is Phelps at first? I think if he plays everyday, he hits. But I don't know if he is a liability in the field. (and God knows we can ill afford another liability in the field).
I personally play Phelps everyday so we can at least know if we need Minky, or can dump him in a month and beef up our bench.
Anyway, Mats is on the DL and KT is probably coming up.
206 Quinn will be a much better pro than Russell. Russell looked good because he faced the handicap Quinn had to make up for all year - one of the worst secondaries in college football. Russell has talent, but was inconsistent against medicore defenses and will struggle in the NFL. The lovefest for Russell reminds me of a few other QBs who were a bit overblown coming into the NFL because of "arm strength" and showed nothing in the NFL, including one who got picked too high because he threw the ball through the goal posts at the combine.
208 Sorry about all the football talk. The way today's game is going there is not much Yankee stuff worth discussing today. Also, it is only two weeks until I go down to Tuscaloosa to watch my Crimson Tide play their spring game, so I guess college football is on my mind a little.
214 I agree with your sentiment, but not with your exact solutions:
"1) This is Giambi, circa 2007. What do you do, dump him?"
No, keep Giambi and ONE 1b, whoever hits better, regardless of which side of the plate or defense.
"2) While Cairo is not good, this is why we need him."
No, this is why we don't need him. Torre will always go to Cairo first, no matter what options there may or may not be. Rather, this is why we need another OF on the bench, whether he comes by way of one 1b or DL one of the injured OFs.
"3) How many innings did Myers pitch last year? And how effective was he against lefties anyway? With all our young power arms, I say dump Myers and get a real player for our bench."
Myers pitched 30 innings in 2006 to a tune of 3.23 ERA. Not bad, but needed this year? As Jim Dean says, we have 37 RHP studs chomping at the bit. Do we needs Myers more then a decent bench player?
219 The reason I asked was that I had a similar discussion with Stormer last fall. He mentioned that he had a brother at Auburn and he was also a Brodie Croyle fan. Those two things are rare combinations (most people who have any connection with Auburn do not care much for the all the hype that surrounded the former Tide QB). You, me and Stormer might be the only three people who fit that mold.
Once Russell gets his footwork straight, he will be outstanding. Quinn is just one more overhyped ND player who didn't beat a single top 10 oponnent his entire tenure at ND. He certainly has had no good perfornances against big time ranked programs since Weiss has been there. If they weren't ND, they wouldn't even have played in a bowl game last year, and you saw what happened to them in the bowl they did play in. Don't get me wrong, I hope the kid does well, I just don't see it happening.
That's how my bro got to Auburn. My cousin also goes there, and wooed my brother with thoughts of $5 all you can eat ribs, $1 beers and all the 18 year old blonde women you could ever want.
228 Why wouldn't you just ignore football posts? As long as the hosts of the blog don't have a problem with it (dunno if they do), and they're not offending anyone, why is it a problem?
Hopefully this ends the Cano as leadoff experiment.
Is this where I begin talking about how bad Petrino is going to be in Atlanta?
Just kidding. Sorry if the football talk bothered Old Yankee Fan. Durning a game like this, when there isn't much to really say, it provides a pleasant diversion from us getting out butts beat.
229 Good one.
Ok. Horrible game. Not much to talk about. Suggestions:
1) Trashing ARod. Those socks. Really.
2) What supermodel Jetes takes his frustration out on tonight
3) Office Pool: When does Minky hit his first ball out of the infield
4) How many millions on Rogers contract have these first 4 games cost us.
5) Office Pool: Bernies next call to Joe
6) ARod. Those Sox.
7) Could it be Gia Allemand
8) Office Pool: Brian Bruney's next day off
9) When questioned about his defense, when does Jeter next say "I got no problem with ARod"
I think Roger wants to ride in on a white horse. This means he wont even consider signing until much later in the year, and will keep everyone hanging until then.
Addendum to List:
Office Pool: Date: Jeter's first line drive
Office Pool: Date: Melky's first line drive
Office Pool: Date: first 'Fire Joe Torre' article
Office Pool: Does Mo get a Save opportunity before the ASG
Not that I am complaining but why would Baez even throw one near the strike zone with Cairo on deck, I know there are no outs but jeez... but hey, I'll take it!
246 If that is for me, if you read my past posts, you will see I am ARod's biggest supporter. My comments were purely in jest on a horribly bad day until...
253 No it wasn't directed at anyone on here. It was directed at "mainstream" media and people on other blogs. People sometimes forget if you're batting .338 with the bases loaded, that means 2/3 of the time you get out.
253 It wasn't directed at you, or anyone on here. I had just read some mainstream media accounts and some comments on another blog, it pissed me off. Apologies if it came off that way.
270 Doesn't change the fact that he's leading off the 9th down by a run. He might get on, but I'd still feel more comfortable with an actual hitting first basemen.
273 True, but in this case I'd bet its more that he hasn't pitched since Monday, with the rainout and then the ahem...amazing pitching in the past few games.
Ow, my hand hurts. Note to self: even when A-Rod hits a walkoff GRAND SLAM TO CENTERFIELD, it's a bad idea to slam my (broken) hand into the wall in ecstacy.
fox just showed the HR during the braves-muts game. he crushed it into the lower right portion of the black, dead center. he was so elated, like a little kid, rounding 1st base. really nice to see. he could barely contain himself as he approached 3rd base. the team was running and grinning, waiting to greet him at home. truly warms the heart. go alex!
They got a big break on the Jete HBP. They should give it a rest. Jim Palmer should have stayed at home after retiring, I liked him before I actually heard him speak. Orel Hershiser he is not.
340 yeah, it wasn't one of his 'seeming' pop-ups that carry out, but it certainly didn't seem like he got it all. although, from his initial reaction, he knew it was out right away. he's soooo powerful.
old friend, craig wilson is up here in the atl. struck out swinging...
BTW, Bruney looked very good. He consistently hit 93-96 on his fast ball and when it hit the glove it was LOUD. 3K's in an inning is a beautiful thing.
How the hell can a ball hit the wall in foul territory and then go over the wall and be a HR? That makes no sense. There certainly should be something in the rules to prevent such a perverse ground rule.
"Rodriguez homered twice, doubled and drove in six runs. Two days earlier, he popped out with the bases loaded to end the eighth in a 7-6 loss to Tampa Bay, a performance reminiscent of his October flop."
huh? And he won the game 4 days ago. they'll do whatever they can to make ARod seem unclutch.
"New York paid $26 million for Igawa's rights and signed him to a $20 million, five-year deal, just after the Red Sox bid $51 million for Matsuzaka and agreed to a $52 million, six-year contract. While Matsuzaka is viewed as an ace, Igawa is a back-end of the rotation pitcher.
While Dice-K throws 95 mph and has a commanding array of pitches, Igawa topped out at 91 mph and usually was around 89."
Is ESPN owned by the freakin' Red Sox?
How did Dice-K get in this story?
to be fair, the recap on espn is from the AP. and they don't call it "conventional wisdom" for nothing. to break free of convention you have to have a spark of intelligence, something that few sportswriters possess it seems.
It's not ESPN that wrote about how much A-Rod fails, it's the Associated Press. This time, anyway. We'll see what the Olneys and Neyers and Starks, and Boston-blowing Gammonses have to say soon....
366 Oh yeah; I forgot to add: "While the Red Sox traded two of their top prospects for an overrated former DL-partner of Carl Pavano, the Yankees have Phil Hughes waiting in the wings."
Don't get me wrong, I love reading Gammons. I think he's really insightful and a great writer. But he DOES have a bias for the Sawks and sometimes it shows.
So ESPN... THE Leader in Sports... has to quote word for work what the monkeys at AP write? Very professional. Wouldn't want to inconvenience them and have a decent professional sports writer write there stuff.
Its OK. Not even ESPN can cold my mello.
Anybody know what time BBTN is on?
I only watch ESPN for games, on mute, and I never visit their website now that I've learned MLB.com has projected pitching matchups days in advance as well.
The Giants should just have a big blue recycle bin outside their stadium where ball clubs can just come and place there old washed up players in. It would save the Giants time in actually going out and signing them.
The YES site has the same crappy, RedSox poluted AP article on their site, The YES site! I mean, can't they write their own stuff? Is the Sports industry really this lazy? This is insulting to us fans.
All I can say is, as my only game of the year, back in NY just for the weekend, what a great game to go to! I have seen them lsoe the last two years, and going into the 9th, I was ready for it to be another crappy game. And even when A-Rod was up, with 2 strikes, I was feeling the doom. He swings, I can't see the ball until I see Patterson going back, and then everyone just goes nuts! Man was that a great 9th inning!!!!
Comment status: comments have been closed. Baseball Toaster is now out of business.
Yankee starters: 12 1/2 IP, 2.27 WHIP, 8.76 ERA
Yankee relievers: 14 2/3 IP, 0.95 WHIP, 1.84 ERA
Yankee defense: awful
For a little reality check on the Captain's defensive abilities, I would refer you to:
1) http://www.nyyfans.com/article/8616/
2) "Time For Jeter To Follow A-Rod & Nomar - And Move Off Short" from WasWatching.
Even another GG can't make this stuff go away.
That makes sense, right?
A lot of guys share the Human Rain Delay nickname, but nobody earned it like Trachs. I've always suspected that the new rule limiting time between pitches was designed specifically with him in mind.
Mora homers. 1-0 O's.
Bama,
I remember that, but I had EI last year and didnt use it. Do you mind refreshing my memory on how to get the game to work on mlb.tv?
Thanks!
If you get it to work, Can you email me the link?
This sucks.
What is the link to get it to work?
25 Thanks for rubbing it in.
Thank you!!!
Thanks man.
Patterson at the dish. 0-1.
Email me at:

Damn. Walks him on a low fastball.
Tied at 2 as Igawa walks in the run.
He'll get better. Gulp.....I hope.
Looked like a changeup away, which Mora pops foul. 1-1.
Curveball blooped to right for a 3 run double. Doug Out couldn't reach it. Jeter drops Abreu's throw, allowing Roberts to score and Mora to tag.

Another low fastball; 1-2.
Little tapper for Markakis, Quest bobbles the ball, Markakis safe.
1st and 3rd, 2 out.
Quest over to first. Markakis safe.
High fastball for a ball. Igawa's control seems to be pretty bad; he better get better and soon.
Fastball inside for a ball.
Tejada flies out to right and slams his bat in disgust.
Finally out of the inning. That was a disaster.
What's your email?
Oooops. I thought you had mlb.tv. Yea, just sign up for gameday audio. You get the WCBS feed.
you can also google 'yankees radio network' and see if any of the radio stations simulcast on the web. or, see if you get any of the stations listed.
Thanks
Takes another curveball outside for a strike. 0-2.
Fastball low and away, Matsui taps it and Castilla throws him out at first.
One gone.
It's blacked out by Fox!
Posada grounds an offspeed pitch to the firstbase side, way foul. 0-2.
Looked like a changeup or bad curveball away for a ball.
Fastball high, ball. 2-2.
Fastball on the inside corner, and the ump makes a big show of calling him out. Total bullshit; that was a ball.
2 away.
Grounds out, 1B to P.
That was fast. 5-2 Os.
Check your email.
Huff fouls off a fastball. 1-1.
Curveball up, flies out to left center. Melky makes the catch.
1 out.
What Date is Hughes called up?
What day is it reported that Cashman has offered his firstborn male child to Clemens?
WAY high fastball, over Millar's head for a ball.
Millar takes a fastball deep to left, Matsui with the easy catch.
2 gone.
2) Not soon enough.
Igawa nails him in the shoulder. Damnit, Quest. Settle down!
That is a good question, why isn't Hughes already up? Don't the Devel Rays have more than 6 guys on their roster younger or the dsame age as Hughes? Treat him like a fragile egg, and he will perform like a fragile egg.
Quest over to first, Patterson back standing up.
Quest bounces a fastball low, and Posada blocks it. 1-0.
Igawa goes over to first with a different move, Pattersonb back standing up.
Quest AGAIN to first, Patterson back.
Offspeed pitch down and in, low for a ball.
Quest to first, Patterson back. Buck smugly claims he can sense Igawa going to the base.
Patterson to third on the hit and run as Gomez singles to left.
I didn't have the 700 version, but I upgraded for the extra $5. God Bless Vandelay Industries (whatever that may be).
Tell me, should I save that link for future Saturdays?
I am SAVED!
No, of course not. But I think they can remove the nipple from Hughes' mouth already.
You are welcome. Vandelay Industries is a subsidiary of Kramerica Inc.
Too much Seinfeld I suppose.
Strike with the heater up and in. 1-2, 2 away.
Big curve just a bit low and in; 2-2.
Big curve again just a bit in, 3-2, 2 out.
K with the heater. No runs that inning.
And God Bless Bronx Banter! This place really rocks!
And God Bless Tiny Tim (I guess).
tiny tim is nice enough. worth the blessing..
Go Auburn...Go Tigers....War Eagle!
I had to throw it in there, my bro goes to Auburn....just teasing.
Trachsel bounces a fastball. 3-2.
Melky grounds a fastball hard, right to the 3rd baseman, and he's thrown out at first.
Strikes out on a changeup low and away.
Changeup high and away, ball. 1-1.
Jeter hits it deep to center, and Patterson makes the catch at the wall.
5-2 Os.
Actually, my brother went there too. It is not a bad school, I just don't like the football team (especially since they have won the last five iron bowls).
Fastball for another ball. 2-0 to Roberts.
Third fastball fouled off. 2-1.
Fat-ball low and in. 3-1.
Even the MASN guys are talking about Dice K. Since when did beating the Royals become this big a deal?
Roberts fouls another one off, then Igawa walks him. Blaugh. This is frustrating.
I am just pulling for Piniella. I have always thought he is about a good a manager of baseball as there has been in decades.
Now a fastball up and away.
God this is annoying. 2-0.
Mora takes it to left for a HR. 7-2 Os.
I like the high socks.
OOops, was he included in a trade, brain freeze?
It's still the 4th. Pray for heavy snow.
If you are a WVU fan you were probably not too happy with us for trying to get your coach. I never really thought he would leave Morgantown (especially to come to Alabama). Now, there is Chastise Joe Torre.
Good luck with Saban. For your sake I hope he performs. I, for one, don't think much of Saban, either personally or as a coach. I thought Bama could have made a much better choice, but big time SEC football schools seem to prefer names over substance.

We have no bench. I hope Phelps does well. I am just happy I dont have to argue with folks like last year, who thought Andy Phillips was a baseball player.
wait, did i just say that?
Come on now. You know Torre will grant any wish a veteran makes....
Posada.
Cano.
ARod .411 with a slugging% over 1.000.
The Bad news: Global warming. No snow today.
Sitting at home.
Laughing, laughing, laughing.
Unless JD is ready to play tomorrow, I think we have to bring up KT. We can lose one guy from the BP for a few days.
And no report on Matsui what-so-ever. Isn't that strange?
Bad, bad news.
KT must come up.
(Bernie: Laughing, laughing, laughing.)

April 7th and the Yankees are playing so badly we are talking about football.
Very, very depressing.
Giambi has exponetially more games played at 1B than Ortiz over the last three seasons. Ortiz is a DH who doesn't want to play 1B. Giambi is a 1B who doesn't want to simply DH.
Not football, big time SEC and college football. Yankee baseball is the only sport I would rather watch than Div. 1A football.
BTW, are you the same guy who used to post as Stormer Sports?
No. That was my cousin, he turned me on to the site.
Agreed!
Paging Roger Clemens, paging Roger Clemens. Roger Clemens to the white courtesy phone, please.

Hey guys....To Michael Kay....www.nofuckingreferencestoamericanidol.com.
When does Karstens come off the DL?
Hopefully this ends the Cano as leadoff experiment.
Is this where I begin talking about how bad Petrino is going to be in Atlanta?
Just kidding. Sorry if the football talk bothered Old Yankee Fan. Durning a game like this, when there isn't much to really say, it provides a pleasant diversion from us getting out butts beat.
That is all.
Office Pool: Date: Jeter's first line drive
Office Pool: Date: Melky's first line drive
Office Pool: Date: first 'Fire Joe Torre' article
Office Pool: Does Mo get a Save opportunity before the ASG
Addendum to Addendum:
Is Giambi the man!
GIAMBINO!
Just kidding man, sorry for the football talk. Now that the game is close again, I am sure we will get back to baseball.
Damon was wasted there. Already one out. Could have been used in the 9th for either Minky or Melky (Minky or Melky, ha ha!)
Mr. Torre. You made a boo boo.
"...so Millar's 'bat' no longer in the lineup."
Fixed.

However, read the COMMENTS about the article. Good stuff. I got one in there.
Boo!
Originally, he was given a HBP, but the 1st base ump said that he swung (no) and he was given a foul ball (also no; he was hit on the hand).
Please god, do not let Arod end this game.
Paging K.T.....
Come on Arod...
Holy Cow!
YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's worth it. WOOOOO HOOOOOO!
(guess he IS clutch)
Obviously the Yankees need to trade A-Rod.
Just kidding.
I gotta catch the highlights.
fox just showed the HR during the braves-muts game. he crushed it into the lower right portion of the black, dead center. he was so elated, like a little kid, rounding 1st base. really nice to see. he could barely contain himself as he approached 3rd base. the team was running and grinning, waiting to greet him at home. truly warms the heart. go alex!
A-Fuckin-Rod-Mazing.
I thinks that's ARod's 4th HR, isn't it?
They got a big break on the Jete HBP. They should give it a rest. Jim Palmer should have stayed at home after retiring, I liked him before I actually heard him speak. Orel Hershiser he is not.
"Orioles tee off on Igawa, Yanks"
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
old friend, craig wilson is up here in the atl. struck out swinging...
ARod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It MUST be the socks!
I was at the game and left early because it was freezing in Row W at the top. What a mistake to leave.
AROD!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK.... who's signing my petition to Cashman to KEEP AROD NO MATTER WHAT!
How the hell can a ball hit the wall in foul territory and then go over the wall and be a HR? That makes no sense. There certainly should be something in the rules to prevent such a perverse ground rule.
"Orioles tee off on Igawa, Yanks"
Take that ESPN!
Take that Wallace!
Take that N.Y. Times!
Now... if only ARod can do something about this stupid Global Warming!
A-Rod game winning hits make ESPN sad :-(
"Rodriguez homered twice, doubled and drove in six runs. Two days earlier, he popped out with the bases loaded to end the eighth in a 7-6 loss to Tampa Bay, a performance reminiscent of his October flop."
huh? And he won the game 4 days ago. they'll do whatever they can to make ARod seem unclutch.
And that pitcher was throwing serious smoke.
Abreu has GOT to be hurting.
Our OF is hurtin' for certin'
"New York paid $26 million for Igawa's rights and signed him to a $20 million, five-year deal, just after the Red Sox bid $51 million for Matsuzaka and agreed to a $52 million, six-year contract. While Matsuzaka is viewed as an ace, Igawa is a back-end of the rotation pitcher.
While Dice-K throws 95 mph and has a commanding array of pitches, Igawa topped out at 91 mph and usually was around 89."
Is ESPN owned by the freakin' Red Sox?
How did Dice-K get in this story?
Fixed.
Its OK. Not even ESPN can cold my mello.
Anybody know what time BBTN is on?
What a difference one swing makes in my day and my evening.
What a freakin' game!
