Baseball Toaster was unplugged on February 4, 2009.
Randy Johnson has not struck out a batter in either of his last two starts. Go figure that. Dude is third on the all-time strikeout list and yet he just hasn't been able to get hitters to swing and miss of late. Johnson has practically become a hold-your-breath-and-pray pitcher, a far cry from his former self. It would be huge for the Bombers if he can come through with a strong performance tonight. But I figure that we could be in for some real offensive fireworks. The White Sox and Yankees have played some tense games this year. No reason to believe tonight will be any different.
Let's Go Yan-Kees!
As for tonight, to quote Han Solo: I have a bad feeling about this.
Belloq: Where shall I find a new adversary so close to my own level?
Indiana: Try the local sewer.
And here's the lineup...
Damon
Jeter
Abreu
A-Rod
Posada
Cano
Bernie
Wilson
Melky
All I can do is to second Alex.
Let's Go Yankees!!
Probably coulda had an inside the park homerun if he'd really hustled. ;-)
Man, Abreu has been munny!
Though Damon wasn't running very hard, and he usually does. I remember that game when the Yanks were up 10 runs in the 8th inning, and Damon ran like hell on what looked like an easy popup. It was dropped, he there he was on 2B. On what looked like a sure out.
This is the 2nd night in a row we have one of these bad ChiSox pitchers on the ropes in the 1st inning and let him get out of it with 1 Run and a DP.
Go Yanks & Go Randy...I think he's pissed enough people off in the last couple of starts, so I'm hoping for bitchy Randy tonight!
I think Morrissey said it best:
"Big Mouth Strikes Again"
Someone please jam a hot dog in that dudes mouth!
That SUCKED!
Fast runner on 2B with no outs and we don't drive him in. Pathetic. And Garland got through that on all of 9 pitches.
Get that runner in from third fellas!
Amen to that!
i cant watch the same crap again. Man on 3rd less than 2 outs, good teams get him in, period.
RJ's pitching pretty decently so far though eh?
Funny how Rickie Weeks was supposed to be GOD and Cano was supposed to be a bench player according to Gammons...
I really wish we had a backup CFer...
We asked Peter Abraham about the possibility of DFAing Andy and bringing up Guiel, but he says Cashman really loves Andy.
Hey, I can dream.
Andy Phillips is leading off in place of Johnny D? Ugh. RJ better keep on pitching well.
I find this worrisome because Damon is so darned fragile. He's never out for long, but he's out often, and unexpectedly.
Ok, anyone hear the actual Sterling call? I'm dying to know...
PS - KC is on the board, finally!
Andy Phillips sucks!
two of the least likely sources to homer came through tonight ;) surely Cano will homer too!!! :P... or take a walk.. which is even more rare.
The other day, they actually showed one of the coaches painting it on his fingernails for him.
That was a SHOT!!!
[Sopranos] "He's gotta go..." [/Sopranos]
(Then again, Chacon returned to normal tonight... ouch)
He gone!
Sorry Andy, but I couldn't resist.
Sterling really does look that much better when you listen to the other commentary teams - I caught a Texas Ranger broadcast on XM one night, and it was as if you were hanging out with two 'good ol' boys' on your couch, and there happened to be a game going on...
(I keed - extra runs are always nice)
Randy Johnson is Pitching a NO-HITTER!
Randy Johnson is Pitching a NO-HITTER!
Obnoxious effort by a White Sox fan to jinx his night. I'm actually surprised that Pierzynski hasn't walked in the Yankees dugout and chanted this refrain. The guy is the greatest heel in baseball. It's like he's Rowdy Roddy Piper when he was a bad guy on the wrestling circuit.
Now back to your regularly scheduled Yankees discussion.
DP BALL! DP BALL! DP BALL!!!!!!!

I loved RJ's face after the side was retired. Pure relief.
The best strategy suggests that you use your best pitcher in the toughest late inning spot. What could be tougher than we just saw?
Villone made the point moot and had his own hero moment, so good enough.
Phew.

Forgive me. I've been in Japan too long. Rin sounds like a proper name to me. ;)
The thing is, he's there because he's good at keeping things calm amidst the Bronx Zoo environment that is Yankeeland.
Whatever. Give me Tom Kelly...;)
People watching the Chicago feed, what did Hawk say?!
I'm out for the night, or as Hawk would say, "HE GONE"
"The Sox down just 17 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but they are never out of this, and with the best CF in baseball Brian Anderson coming to the plate, they have the perfect guy to start a rally!!!!!!11111"
;)
i had to put it on mute as soon as he hit it so I will not describe what he said there....
When he misses he puts guys on base and other teams score multiple runs.
Not a good formula for a late-inning reliever. Mad Dog Chris Russo is often wrong, and always annoying, but he's right about Farnsworth being a tough guy to count on in a big spot.
Er, that was the worst AB ever.
But Russo is laughing somewhere all the same. It's easy to be right a lot when you're negative ALL the time.
WTF!?!?!?!?!
It's time for the Sandman to get redemption.
Uh-oh. No more drama, please, Mo...
We're going to win.
BUT WHY CAN'T I TURN IT OFF?!!!
THANK YOU CANO.
we've gotta stop with the nailbiters.
These are the games that will eventually kill me early.
ThAAAAAAAAAAA YANKEEEEEEEEEEEEES WIIIIIIN!
Screw this...
Just hope the Royals pull a Devil Rays and beat the Sawx.
Wow, watching the Cano play again - that really could have been disastrous. Where was Robbie in 2001 when Mo threw it into CF? ;)
Well, that will do it for us.
For the entire Channel 4 News Team,
I'm Ron Burgundy.
You Stay Classy, Bronx Banter.
I really wanted to see Randy go 8 innings. That was so much more important than a no hitter. But he got tired early.
Bernie played it perfectly for HIS ABILITY. There are no set of circumstances under which he should play CF.
Bubba wouldn't have had to dive. He has the speed to get there in time to get it without diving.
405 Tightness in his groin. No word on how bad it is. I hope it's just Joe being overprotective.
I don't have the skillz, unfortunately.
Both Damon and Bubba sometimes make bad reads, but use their speed to make up for it.
Bernie almost got there. If Bernie almost got there, Bubba or Damon would have gotten there.
But that still doesn't excuse him from not actually getting to the ball to possibly catch it on the fly...
(a) Yankees keep pace with surging Sox. Papi spurs team on with charismatic laughter.
(b) Sox stay afloat despite struggling Ortiz. Steve Phillips suggests it might be time to test the waiver waters for the slumping slugger.
And no one associated with Yes or the Yankees will ever question whether a different outfielder would have gotten to that ball.
After tonight's game, I agree whole-heartedly.
Damon doesn't know if he'll be able to play tomorrow. He says he's "hobbling around."
We really need to do something about CF, because Damon is always walking wounded by the end of the season.
5th blown save for Papelbon.
And Papelbitch blows it!
Hopefully they keep on struggling when we roll into town in a week or so.
DOUBLE by Grudz!
I love nights like tonight - I'll be exhausted tomorrow, but I'll be smiling the whole damn day.
Nite all!
There will be suicides in B-Town tonight!
Rock on KC!
"Who's ready for some Football?"
After the sac fly, Papelbon completely comes unraveled and gives up a smoked double over Manny's head to Grudzielanek, then Sweeney immediately whacks a single that Manny charges well but can't get out of his glove.
About as crappy a loss as the Red Sox could possibly suffer.
Schill goes tomorrow. I think it's impossible, but if the Sox lose tomorrow, I will be watching EVERY Sports show all day Saturday.
considering how crappy our backup catcher is, I CANT BELIEVE WE DIDN'T GET THIS GUY
AVG .299 | HR 18 | RBI 51 | OBP .355 | SLG .542 | OPS .897
Mike Piazza. 1.2 mil. Catching and NOT DHing.
DAMN!
