Bobby Blue Bland? Bob Klapisch recalls his infamous clubhouse incident with Bobby Bonilla over at The Baseball Analysts. An excellent read, Klap illustrates why modern athletes often prefer to be cautious and boring. Sure beats having to deal with a goon like Bonilla.

Funny. (Now, not back then though.)

To be fair to the Mets, if a reporter's in the clubhouse doing a book on why the team sucks, I can understand a hostile attitude.

The thing of it is, Harper and Klap planned to write about how good the Mets were going to be. How did they know that the team would be so bad, and so sour? The book changed when the team stunk. I don't think those guys were out to get the Mets. Klap ghosted books by both Darrly and Doc. He and Verducci came up covering those mid-80s Mets. I don't think he was out to get them, but that team turned rotten but fast.

And it's fitting that Bonilla's outburst was caught by TV cameras. What a clown.

I think that was the 2nd time that idiot was caught on TV going after a reporter.
I remember the time he went after a channel 7 reporter, basically talking the same trash.
But you know there two sides to every story and it would have been nice to hear Bonilla's side of that day.
I wouldn't be to happy with the person who wrote a book on how badly I suck either.
Some of those columnist really enjoy focusing on the bad and sensationalizing players lives.
So I don't blame some of the players today being "boring"

2 Alex, the way I read it, 1) they decided to change the book after the Mets started sucking, 2) Klapisch gave a heads up to Torborg on this change, 3) then Bonilla acted as Torborg's goon to Klap. I could see Torborg being miffed at H & K, mostly out of frustration that his team was sucking.

Bonilla is no gentleman, but Klapisch really seems like a clueless jackass in this article. "Just want you to know that I'll be paying for my trip to the Bahamas this year on a book I wrote that's about how much you and your team sucks."

And thinking it's appropriate to hook up girls with Derek Jeter? Christ, please pretend to be professional, at the very least. If you want to be Jeter's pal, don't report on the Yankees.
