Maybe Yankees left-hander Randy Johnson is coming around. He has produced quality starts in four of his last five outings, and teammates are noticing his willingness to make adjustments; Johnson is pitching to both sides of the plate and becoming less predictable in his patterns. Johnson says he is watching more video than at any point in his career, and working as hard at his mechanics as he ever has before.
I hear Veras has been sent back down to Columbus without throwing a pitch. Kevin Reese has been called up, and will start tonight. Along with Bernie. Both Melky and Bubba are riding pine. That's what you get when you don't hit, I guess.
Fantastic invention, that BETAmax machine, let's you watch video of yourself over and over with the push of a button. Much better than that old reel-to-reel projector, where you had to reload the reel to watch something again.
/Sarcasm off
I'm actually glad that Johnson is watching video and working so hard on his mechanics, I just wish he had been watching video from Day 1 in pinstripes!
1 Poor Kevin 'Gapper' Thompson - Reese is getting the shot KT should/could have had. Them's the breaks.
Maybe he'll get another chance. They can call him up again in a couple of weeks.
I read Torre's starting Reese tonight as a sign of desperation.
Johnny Damon CF
Derek Jeter SS
Jason Giambi 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Cano 2B
Bernie Williams RF
Kevin Reese LF
Mike Mussina P
Get well soon.
Love,
Schteeve
P.S. Really soon. Have you seen the bottom third of the lineup lately?
And whether either will be the player they were before they were injured is another question.
They needed the extra pitcher, so the extra position player had to go.
Since it hasn't been 10 days, he can't come back yet.
Luckily, it was Kevin Reese called up and not--GASP--Terrence Long.
I can just picture him sitting there staring at the iPod screaming "I'd like to hear Free Bird! Damnit Milky, you're young, why won't thing thing listen to me?"
Its not even that hes that old. He just doesnt strike me as a guy that enjoys technology.
.273 .429 .636 1.065
You'd think that would have gotten him more playing time.
Yikes, the bottom of our order is worse than KC's, ugh!

Easy to do John.
You're right, we have to resign ourselves to the fact that we have "zip" at AA and AAA as many GM's have been quoted as saying, and we don't have the chips to move for a player like Gathright.
The only deals we can make are going to cash heavy, takking salry off a team with no playoff prospects, leaving guys like Griffey, or Schmidt, as our only real options.
I live in LA now and it is simply amazing to watch daily what a true farm system lokks like. They have more minor leaguers with talent playing in A ball and at Dodger camp in South America than we have on every one of our minor league rosters. It's pittiful, and not just the lack of talent caused by trades, the overall extraordinary incompetence that has accompanied the Yankees player draft for many years now. I'm sorry Brian C., but I don't think Torre should go, I think you should have been replaced years ago.
It was clearly a strike. A lot of movement, and it fooled the ump. He called it a ball, which upset Moose. (I don't blame him.)
The next pitch is hit into the upper deck - 3-run homer.
Can we put Bubba in, and hope he hits one off the ump's cup like he did yesterday?
No, we're not being no-hit, we're being no hit by Cory Fucking Lidle.
I think we all need to take a collective deep breath already.
Perhaps they are just waiting to trade his brother. I can't imagine Jered will be in AAA for after the trade deadline, at the latest.
All the Torre/Cashman haters here should help by picking out our next OF'er. It's just a matter of when.
Seriously, I hope he can do OK, his numbers in AAA have went up since I last looked at them so maybe he's hot.
Nosterdamus I ain't.
And Moose has def. been regressing in his last few starts...6.25 ERA in June before tonight's start...
Nope, he's just back to trying to be so perfect with his pitches, that he bites off his nose to spite his face.
If it were Bubba in RF, he would probably have called Cano off and caught it.
So now I'm watching comedian Robert Klein on "Centerstage." Hilarious. But I'm flipping around, and for some reason, Channel 9 is showing what must be a Yankees Classic. A-Rod's up, tight ballgame against the Phillies, and I figure something big is about to happen, but guess what? Hilarious.
CHRIST Bernie.
Ideas?
And is Yahoo ever going to have a "homered to shallow right/center/left" It's a home run, "deep" is already implied.
Melky's benched because he's not hitting. Why not let Reese hit, then PH Andy for Moose?
All our main rivals for the pennant our kicking the everliving crap out of the weak-ass NL, and we're getting our asses handed to us.
Damon slaps a single to left.
Jeter falls behind 0-2 to the lefty Cormier and then gets plunked right above his right knee. Not horrible but that will hurt. Jeter tried to move back but was too late an then sprung across the plate like a grasshopper walking on hot coals.
And now Jeter's plunked on the knee...
...though I completely agree with the sentiment.
Damon and Jeter run. Giambi lifts a fly ball to center. Rowand makes the easy catch for the first out. The runners get back safely.
Jeter's at SS, though...
Pavano looked good in the lobby
Why didn't I marry that other girl?!?!
Because he is managing this bullpen as if it matters whether the batter is a righty or lefty, they all suck, and he just doesn't get it. Any reliever who is getting outs should be left in, regardless of the batters handedness. Proctor, Myers, Erickson, Small, were, and are, all just junk, deal with it Joe and give the young guys a shot. They certainly cannot be any worse.
If you walk the guy you are brought in to face, in my opinion, that should result in at least a one week suspension without pay.
Rhodes? Never mind, we'll win this one...
He's managing scared, making moves because they make objective sense, but subjectively, make none. He obviously doesn't pay attention to what the players are doing, for if he does, he should be using the bullpen differently, or in the alternative, carry fewer relief pitchers (as all of our's over 25 years of age are interchangable), so at least we might score a few extra runs with the bench.
Man, you guys are back-seat drivers.
Please listen carefully. There is nothing Torre, or God, can do if the players don't execute.
Little Papi 7 - Yankees 6
YES!!!
Damon!!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!
Brilliant!!
FUCK'n BRILLIANT!!
And Mo's warming...
Seriously, I gotta give Miggy props for that AB. He really battled. So did Melky.
Was that a second DP by Arod today?
Well. following the objective logic in 265, you have to go with Farnsowth right? That's why we signed him, to pitch the 8th right? I love managing from a statistical notepad, makes the game so much fun, oh wait, what it does is give the Fucking Manager an excuse in the post game press-conference, and that's all it does.
But I'm really trying to be positive.
Absolutely! Joe is so confused he doesn't know which way is up. Go to Farny and yank him if someone reaches, simple, and Mo doesn't have to throw 40 pitches. Although I have been a frequent advocate of multi-inning saves so, maybe, I'll be quiet.
293 Well, losing to NLB for 3 straight games were ugly. Four might be saying Mets is now the face of NY not that I have anything against the Mets.
Bernie is so hot tonight.
Now we're in trouble. Two on, Howard up. Oy.
333, 334 Man, is Mo thinking over his strikeout during his AB?
Dear Mo:
It's ok. You are Mo not Arod, please just get the batters out. And you can strike out all you want.
Sincerely,
Your fan.
MO IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seeya tomorrow fellas!
The YAN-KEES win!
Finally...
And I believe that it will even be on MLB EI.
Finally, it's a win. It just never seems to be that easy anymore. When did that happen? I still vaguely recall in April when every single announcer claiming that the lineup in the Yanks just don't get easy for a pitcher...is it just me who still remembers that?
Great win.
revival?
But I wish Joe would just DH him. Once we get the DH back, anyway. He's a liability on defense. Tonight, if he caught Burrell's hit, there would have been no one on base when Howard hit his second homer. One less run scored. Howard's triple would have been a double with someone other than Bernie in RF. Utley's single in the 9th should have been an out. Etc.
And at his age, he can't take the wear and tear he took when he was younger. Heck, the wear and tear he took when he was younger is what's causing his problems now. He should be used sparingly in the OF, not just because his defense is lacking, but to keep him fresh for a long season, and hopefully, the postseason.
Someone noted that the major difference this year in Bernie's stats is that he's not walking as much as he did in the old days. They speculated that it's because pitchers aren't afraid of him any more. You don't walk the guy batting 8th. (Interestingly, when Torre put him in the two-hole, he went 0-for-5.)
And of course, with Wright pitching tomorrow, it's Stinnett, not Posada, catching.
