Jason Giambi returns to the line-up today as Jaret Wright and Scott Downs face off at the Stadium. The MVP bats second, Giambi three, Cano down to seventh with Bernie and Bubba rounding it out as the Yanks look to make it six straight.
So, any guesses as to what flying object will strike Jaret Wright today?
These are the brutal days in Japan.
Wright hit again.
WOW...Wright has no luck.
You know, Wright must have really slow reactions...
I blame Cliff. ;-)
Glad I'm going to miss the end of the game.
Go Orioles.
Is three the charm?
I don't have the game on TV - is anyone warming up?
Hopefully, Giambi will have learned something from his first at-bat. C'mon, Godzilla!
It's up to Jaret to hold 'em here.
Remember what a black hole 1B was last year?
This year, between Tino and Giambi, as 1B in 508 ABs, they have 39 HR, 107 RBI, 82BB, 102K, 143H, 19 2B, and have scored 83 runs. That's Mark Texeira-territory.
I see from Yahoo! that Wright is back to giving up singles . . . please tell me that someone is starting to warm up now.
I mean if you can't challenge FC inside, something's wrong, no?
He's so bad - and I can't see him - I don't know how to tell if this is just a crappy performance, or if he is hurt. In either case, someone should knock some sense into him. If he is hurt, he damn well shouldn't be pitching in the middle of this race when the team has other (good) options available!
Maybe I'm more optomistic 'cause I haven't seen any of it, just read it online here.
Well yea! Wright belongs in the pen, if anywhere.
That's all? 7 mil.?
Still, I just think if you can sign Pedro, you do it.
Why do you think it wsa Wright or Pedro? Pedro's contract was for approx. $30 million more.
Jeter hit by pitch for the 2nd time today.
Way to go, Cap'n! Take another one for the team. Now, Mr. MVP, could you help us out here?
Just my gut, about Pedro. It seemed like he was never even on Cash's radar. How many pitchers does Boston have to kick to the curb who end up having 6-10 more great years, before we pick up on it. We almost lost Clemens, should have signed Lowe, and should have signed Pedro. I don't care that it's Boston.
Every time he's pitched from the stretch he's lost the plate.
I understand, but I thought paying Lieber for one year while on the DL in anticipation of him pitching for us for a while, he has a good year following the year you paid him not to pitch, and then you let him go for a lousy 8 mil., made no sense to me.
Mussina
Chacon
Wang
Small
Give me that lineup in 2006.
Hell of a play by Crosby just now, btw.
You keep bringing up Cashman. He doesn't make those decisions.
I claim the t-shirt rights
I agree, though if you notice, Clement has done his typical 2nd half of the season melt down. His #'s post all star are awful around the board...
lol. He'll be better next year with Ryan or Wagner setting up. All I want for Christmas is Billy Wagner.

Set.
Match.
It's only 4 runs, but the way they are swinging, you would think it was 14.
Credit nomaas for the nickname.
My chin is up. Lack of 2 out hits is just ripping my insides out.
Both should have been made, but thems the breaks. We gotta club our way out of it today.

Where having Small Wang is a good thing.
Matsui does made boneheaded mistakes every once in awhile. Luckily, they're usually few and far between.
I HATE when batters decide to take a little pressure of the pitcher by swinging at the first pitch. God forbid the pitcher should go deep into a count and actually feel the pressure of the situation.
That was horseshit.
Small gets a big hand, I like it. At least the fans' appreciate it, God knows the offense didn't, threw it right back in his face!
Because it is the 8th inning. Joe has to make a change, it's the 8th inning. He can't help himself.
Jeter walks. C'mon, A-rod! Yankees score best with two outs.
Batista's coming in.
At this point, what I hope for here is a bases chucked walk with Matsui die next.
And of course Boston, Chicagom, and Cleveland will all win tonight.
Last licks coming...let's hope we lick'em good. Posada is the tying run.....Come on Jorge juice one.
BTW, Sheff and Matsui will both get on.
This sux!!!
Errors, sloppy at bats, with 8 to go. If you lose you lose, but when you give it away, that may cost you big time. Come on O's! If Boston wins today, I don't like our chances the rest of the way, not if that sloppy play continues. We had to win these home games.
Looking more and more like we'll need to win 2 of 3 next weekend.
Team LOB 11.
That aint going to do it.
No help tonight. We're gonna have to do this ourselves. Which is OK. We will.
Yankee Fan in Chicago,
Cox.
Here's hoping either Toronto or Baltimore can win one against the Sox, but I doubt it
I'm not hoping for help from the Indians or White Sox...it's the division or nothing.
