For baseball fans, I think it's safe to say that Baseball-Reference is the greatest thing since sliced bread (or at least since Retrosheet). Joe Pos sure likes it. Oh, and by the way, Pos is pretty damn good too. And so is this cat Prince Albert.

Happy playoffs.

I'm sure our Sliced Bread will be quite pleased to know how highly you regard him, Alex. ;)

I imagine its hard for those who have grown up with b-r.com and retrosheet to imagine what life used to be like. Sometimes I do miss spending 30 minutes devouring the league leaders in the big list they used to publish on Sundays. But then I wonder how I ever lived without being able to look up splits and I don't miss the Sunday list quite so much.

When I was a youngun' and we had to settle a bet at the bar, the tapmeister would reach underneath the counter and pull out a book thicker than the bible and twice as useful. It were called the "The Baseball Encyclopedia". He'd slam it down on the bar and tell us to pipe down while he looked up the answer.

Now the barkeep jes' says the joint has wireless and someone can use their iPhony thing to look it up on this baseball-reference place on the world wide intertubes. Then he tells us to pipe down.

I was just driving home from work and found the Brewers-Phils game on the radio. The voice doing the game sounded mighty damn famiiar but I couldn't quite place him. A few minutes passed before I realized it was Michael Kay. Funny how hearing someone out of context can throw a wrench in your system. C-Ya.

Maybe Melky's not a bonehead after all:

2 What if the barkeep reached under the counter, pull out an iBook, slam it down on the bar and tell them, "pipe down gotdammit while I google the reference page!" ...

3 I never thought Kay would allow anyone to take him out of context, but gotta admit I bust out laughing every time I see this:

Hey, thanks fer the shout, Alex!

Oh, that wasn't a shout out?

I see. Yeah, well I don't mind sayin' I can pretty useful myself sometimes...

Ok, I'm not nearly as useful as Baseball-Reference, or Retrosheet...
but let's see those invaluable data bases become sandwiches, french toast, that sorta thing.

13 I don't want to see the Cubs win. They're losers. It's tradition, dammit!

I wouldn't mind seeing the Rays win. Who ever expected the Rays would take the AL East?

15 Nice to see him crushing somebody else in the post-season, isn't it? Esp. in the NL. Far, far away.

2 Wonderful story. As great as the Net and technology are, there are always some loses!

4 "The exception to that is at first base, where it is faster to run through, since you can overrun the base." ---- Nope, still a bonehead.

Really funny!

This may be old news, but PeteAbe has a 40 minute audio of Cashman's press conference.
Simply put: MUST HEAR!
When I hear or see this man, I love the guy.
We need a thread just to discuss him and what he said.

"I care about my name and I care about how I'm perceived and I care about this franchise. I need everybody that works for me who feels the same way to pull in the same direction. If I wanted something easy, I could do a hell of a lot of other things than run the Yankees."

Yeah!! nice to see some fire coming out

Yeah, I guess that dude Manny can hit too. That homer was crazy.

Go Dodgers! LOL.

I hung out at Dodger Thoughts, just because I couldn't stand the thought of not participating in the post-season.

It was fun. They broke 1000 posts, easily. And we all enjoyed Manny's homer.

11 Who is James Loney? Seriously? He's not even available in your fantasy league? He's only one of the sweetest-swinging young first baseman in the NL. Hits into two many DPs but otherwise is pretty talented. I'm surprised.

Thanks for hanging out with us, btw, RIY. :-)
