Man Alex, I would think that if they did get Manny, they would absolutely have to do something drastic to upgrade the outfield, as you would have a mediocre-at-best outfield of mid thirty-somethings past prime (except Nady, a mediocre RF by comparison). I'd think the upper half of the lineup would have monster years with Manny in the middle. Manny or no Manny, they almost have to trade Johnny, unfortunate to the clubhouse as that may be.
They have to get younger if Girardi's gonna have any chance to show anyone what he intends to do with a comparably young roster. That's kinda why I think they should try to go after Tex; he's relatively young and would solidify the infield in a way that hasn't been done since Tino first arrived. I don't know about CC or bust, but I would get him and Tex, then add on/blend in from the farm.
Wowzers, why have I sounded so serious the last few weeks? I haven't been hanging around as much as I should! >;)
I didn't watch the video yet but I say get rid of Abreu. He's a good player and a nice guy and all, I just think the team chemistry needs a change. They need more intensity and they already have enough cool-headed "professional hitters".
Much as I doubt it will happen, I'm intrigued by the idea of Manny on the team. Quite a betrayal of the Sox fans; I'd feel karmically uneasy about that. HE would inevitably break down or stink up the joint ...
Kellerman had a hilarious comment about how to "fix" Abreu's fielding "skills": paint a black arch onto the outfield wall, with train tracks coming out of it, roadrunner style, so that, well, you can picture the rest!
4 You forgot that Bobby has a decent arm which doesn't matter because he rarely gets to the ball in time for his arm to be of any use.
I bet that they say bye bye to Bobby and Matsui, get Manny, and Damon plays center next year, at which point i light myself on fire, before the season even starts.

1) Hits for average.
2) Good eye / takes a lot of pitches.
3) Steals bases fairly well, though 19/30 this season is not a good percentage.
Those are the only three I could come up with.
