This below is a very unscientific comparison of the seating bowls in the new Yankee Stadium (on the left from a photo posted on the WCBS web site) and the current Yankee Stadium (on the right from a photo I took three weeks ago). It's an imperfect comparsion to be sure (the photo on the left appears to have been taken from in or near the press box, while my photo was taken from a seat in the upper deck behind home plate), but the difference in the upper deck seating is striking nonetheless.

Cool comparison. In the far reaches of the new upper deck you are high... you are far... you are.. gone.
Might as well be in Westchester, CT, NJ, LI, or wherever you're chauffeured in from.
Ka-ching!

Any banterers going to Sunday's finale? I'm thinking of going and soaking up some atmosphere (and beer), hanging out around the Stadium.

that is very striking and horrifying. It's hard to believe with all the money they're spending they could make the stadium so much worse for the fans. I LOVED the way every seat felt right on top of the action. Now, it's just like every place else, and probably worse than many places. Fenway Park sucks in a lot of ways (ridiculously tiny seats, obstructed views for just about every seat) but it will be so much better to watch a game there than at the new YS after this remodel.

2 Alex and I will both be at the game.

Note also how much further the stands are from fair territory along the third base line of the new park. That's something I didn't anticipate.

4 So much for keeping the same dimensions. Between the lines, sure - but one of the distinctive characteristics of Yankee Stadium is the configuration of the foul territory. This is going to change the game on the field - hello, pitcher's park.

4 I'll be there tomorrow. I still have trouble believing that I'll never be there again. I figure that, aside from home and work, I've spent more time at Yankee Stadium than anywhere else.

5 According to the seating chart, the foul territory looks about the same:

I've been to 5 games at the stadium. I kinda wished I'd seen a game from that upper deck. The top seat in upper left hand corner has got to intersting. Can you even read the pitcher's number from there?

I've sat in both upper deck corner seats, last row (as well as first row upper deck corners), mostly just to say that I did. Used to venture there back when you could walk up and buy a ticket 2 minutes before the first pitch.

The funny thing too back then was that they often had entire sections simply closed off - so that ushers would ultimately come shoo you away.

It looks eerily like US Cellular Field in Chicago. Actually U.S. Cellular is not a bad place to watch a game at all, however they also aren't charging what the Yankees are charging.
