Baseball Toaster Bronx Banter
Help
Against All Odds

by Alex Belth

That's what it's going to be for the Yanks to miraculously qualify for the playoffs let alone being able to get passed Roy Halladay and the Jays today. It is another beauty of a day out there. Not that the weather helped matters any yesterday. (I was painting my apartment and had the pleasure of hearing John Sterling deliver the bad news.)

Still, today is a new day and you never know what's going to happen on a baseball diamond.

Let's Go Yan-Kees.

wow ... guess arod can't wait til september gets here:

DOUBLE PLAY-ROD: Alex Rodriguez had grounded into 11 double plays this month. Over the last 20 seasons, the only other player to hit into that many GIDPs in one calendar month was Jose Guillen, who had 11 for the Mariners last August. No other Yankees batter has grounded into that many double plays in one calendar month since GIDPs were first recorded in the American League in 1939.

Anyone else around today?

Sadly, I feel this game will be much like the life of man in nature: solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.

Should Nady have had that fly ball? Did defense cost us 2 runs?

5 I'm here, but I think I may be the last person left in New York City.

Too bad -- everyone's going to miss hearing about how much heart David Eckstein has!

7 Nah, I'm taking my vacation next week -- less traffic, no one else on the beach.

Anyway, it's probably for the best no one is watching this game. I don't mind the Yanks losing so much, at this point, but if this is going to be a blowout, I'm pausing the Tivo and heading for the park...

8 What?! But didn't anyone explain to the Blue Jays how short and skinny Eckstein is? How could they?

11 The runners advancing on a strikeout? Yeah, but no one seemed too worked up over it. This game just isn't feeling very tense...

Maybe Damon can start changing that here.

13 Cano struck out, the ball hit his ankle and caroomed away allowing the runners to advance. Of course then the Yankees failed to capitalize on the situation.
