Oh, come on. I know it's Saturday night and the Yanks' post-season hopes are dim, but come on. Isn't anyone watching the debut of Glass-Ass?

5 Yeah, we really are.

Damon probably shouldn't have even tried for home. He made it, but they had him beat.

ok, Big Carl should be able to make this lead hold up...

6 i'll not complain, even though that should have been another notch in the belt for Bobby "The Mad Runner" Meacham.

c'mon Carl, get Hot!

Suzyn just said the Dodgers won today. They actually lost, 9-2.

someone's gotta tell damon to stop hogging balls when there's a throw to be made.

19.   randym77
Well, I guess our luck ran out.

I went to the kitchen to clean up after dinner because I didn't want to hear them talk about Pavano's buttocks again, and come back to find the Yanks losing.

And another weird and bizarre play.

now Abreu with the phantom whiff...?

It's Joe West again. The guy who was suspended for shoving Torre in his Braves days, and who called Cano out for running outside the line in that last ALDS game against the Halos.

30 Kung-PAO??
2008-08-23 17:30:49

31 No, not coated and fried like kung-pao chicken is.

And I can't believe we're talking about leftovers during a game. :-P

OK, did Susan just say that somebody or some team "was just lynched"?

Not a verb you normally hear during the scoreboard....

Let's see, if the pattern holds, the Orioles will score three runs this inning.

That was nice when Jason hit the dinger. My kid and I had our nightly, "Ok, G, last inning, then bedtime!"

Down to his final out, he got to see Jason launch one before he was off to beddy-bye.

Oh, and on the strength of our performance in the first inning, he predicted that we'll win this one.

this from chad jennings down in SWB:

"Bottom third: I understand that Melky Cabrera wants to prove to the Yankees that he's willing to play hard -- and you can't deny he's run out every ball and play good, hustle defense -- but he was just caught stealing second. Last night he was caught stealing third in tie game in the bottom of the ninth. Sunday he was thrown out foolishly trying to stretch a single into a double. Cabrera needs to show he's willing to hustle, but right now the greater concern might be whether or not he's a bonehead."

36 Dumbest player in baseball. Got Melk?
2008-08-23 17:45:57
38.   randym77
36 I think we know he's a bonehead.

Jennings said on Sunday that they lectured him on the difference between hustle and bad baserunning. He seems immune to coaching.

36 Poor, lame Melkman.

He must be in agony these days.

Imagine going from starting centerfielder of the NY Yankees for multiple seasons to suddenly wondering whether you have a future in the sport.

I sure hope he has close friends, loved ones and coaches to help shepherd him through.

Anybody noticing TB is NOT folding? They are playing for real. They believe. And that's a big part of it. Down 3-1 in after 7, they score 4 in the 8th and win 5-1.

I think the Yanks found their ace. We are now officially in the P-A-V-A-N-O era!!!!

Oh wait...this is his last year of the contract. Man, time sure flies....it almost feels like he was never a Yankee.

7th inning of a possible Pavano win...and not even 50 comments.. :(

46 I'm feeling positive today, with the BoSox having serious rotation issues, if we can get two more wins from Pavano and the good Moose and Andy int he upcoming series..we got a shot at the WC...

and it's 50! got to split, lets go Yankees! Pavano can get the W in a story of "struggle, tears, hard work and redemption: The Carl Pavano Stoty, tonight on LIFETIME.."

2 Nope, I was at the Mudhens' game. Where the Hens, basically finally out of it played like shit, as though they were making off season plans.

So now it's only $2 mil per start for Carl.

Surprisingly, this was an encouraging game! Guthrie had been on a roll, so it was nice to see the bats get to him. Matsui and A-Rod hit the ball hard and the bullpen was solid. Not much to whinge about this time, from my POV.

Nice game tonight, Team!

Don't look now, but we seem to be on a real tear.

That's two in a row!

With a little luck, we'll be threatening Oakland's 20-game streak soon and with it, the division title!

Never say die.

good call, weeping! the way I see it, 18 more wins and your prediction will have come true!

ps--if we could sweep the Sox, even take 5 of 6, I'd be perfectly happy not to make the postseason....

56 Hmmm...If they manage to take 5 or 6 out of 6 against the Sox, I'll be stunned that they don't make the playoffs.
