I've never quite gotten the Sinatra thing. Not that I dislike him; not at all. Good baritone, impeccable sense of time, and great taste in arrangers.
It's when I hear him praised as a consummate interpreter of songs that I'm puzzled. A lot of smart people say that - Gary Giddins comes to mine - but I just don't hear it. I find that most of his songs come out sounding pretty similar, at least within broad categories.
I couldn't disagree more. I cut my teeth on classic rock, then moved on to punk and thrash metal, and I can still hear the genius in Frank's vocals and groove.
