The Bronx Bummers are at it again this afternoon. At this pernt, you've got to laugh to keep from cryin. Here's hoping they give something, anything to cheer for today.
3 Or maybe, instead of having the keg at third, put it at home. You only get a beer once you score. The team can get to third, it's the last ninety feet that's the problem.
Nice thing is, the game isn't on Extree Innings so I won't be subjected to the futility. Thanks, Fox.
So lots of lying on the couch, pumping fluids while I try and recover from strep throat.
4 Ouch, strep is horrible. I had it when I was a kid and it was really just hell. I remember not being able to drink despite being desperately thirsty.
This may sound nuts... but bring IPK up and let him pitch. He can get 6 starts... that don't matter... and maybe get his confidence up enough for next year... or showcase him for tradebait. Same with Phil.
At least me might get to see AJax and some other kids in 2 weeks.
Sterling is in rare form now. he's blathering on about not scoring with the bases juiced. And he just came up with this profound conclusion: "On the whole, the biggest problem the Yankees have this season is that they don't score enough runs."
Wow...go out on a limb there. I mean, it's balsy to pick ONE fault out of the many: not enough runs scored, too many runs allowed, and....um...er...oh yeah, not scoring more than you allow.
A quick question or two--I can hear the Stadium PA announcer in the background on the radio, and it sounds a lot like Bob Shepard. Is he back?
Also, I know that Shepard has one or two back-ups who sound a good bit like him. But I went to a game a couple of weeks ago, the crazy game against the Angels, and the PA announcer sounded totally different: younger and too "excited." Not the same somber, weighty style. Who was that, I wonder?
How many times have you seen a batter take a big swing and miss, wind up hanging over the top of the plate, and the catcher has to iterally throw the ball over the batter's head to nab a base runner? That happens a lot and a call is never made. That Jeter-Damon play should have been a non call. IMO. The ump must be bored watching this team as well. Hey look, another dp.
So I finally put the game on to find it's already the sixth inning(!), we've not scored a single, solitary run (no surprise, there) and that (yet again!) Ponson, of all people, turns out to be our strong suit.
NEW YORK -- Yankees manager Joe Girardi was optimistic Saturday that injured right-hander Joba Chamberlain could be back soon, but a timetable still hasn't been set.
The same goes for designated hitter Hideki Matsui, who homered in Class A Tampa's doubleheader Friday.
It would be nice if JD and ARod picked up their BAs, as Pedroia leads the AL and Youk is 2nd. (This must be our year for all kinds of humble pie. Also, Moose in 10th in th AL in ERA. Lester is 9th).
Ponson HAS been a huge disruption to the clubhouse. All the guys are super-pissed that he's been, you know, performing. How can they expect to hit with a Knighted cast-off from Texas on the hump for them every 5 days. Sheesh.
We are making fun of how bad these guys are playing... but really... it's almost unbelieveable. I mean, it's hard to play this badly if you are trying. Stunning.
Twice in this game, the Yankees had the bases loaded with less than two outs. Twice in this game I was hoping for a fucking BALK because I knew otherwise the Yankees would shit the bed.
Guys... I DON'T get Yankee postgame. Would someone please post what Girardi says to not bunting in the 9th. I'm anxious to see how creative his answer is.
139 Its going to be that Damon is fourth in the league in hitting.
Of course, that didn't stop him from sitting Damon when he was first in hitting, but Johnny's shoulder needed a rest on the astroturf or something equally absurd.
Shadows are falling and I've been here all day
It's too hot to sleep time is running away
Feel like my soul has turned into steel
I've still got the scars that the sun didn't heal
There's not even room enough to be anywhere
It's not dark yet, but it's getting there
This is going to be like the 1980 USA Hockey team upsetting the Russians for the Gold. The Royals came in here all brash and cocky; we almost beat them last night and we might beat them today. We've managed to keep the score close anyway.
At some point, we are going to have to hope for a "2008 Rockies-style" finish to the season. Especially if we keep losing to the Royals. Of course, by we, I mean the Yankees and not me.
Arod has been as bad (and that's a relative term for Arod) as any point in 2006.
This team continues to find ways to embarass itself. Again, even if they win, the Yankees should walk off the field ashamed. The season is over, but I still think changes should be made to set a tone for the off season. Girardi has tolerated pitiful play all season, and the organization has tolerated pitiful managing. Is it any wonder that the team is pitiful?
139 Girardi's postgame is the same...he says he had a reason and the team is trying and they'll start winning tomorrow. I've tuned out Girardi...I'm sure most of the players have as well.
I've been thinking about ways the Yankees can best prepare for 2009, and one thing that seems to make sense is to pick up Giambi's $22mn option and then trade him. After a pretty solid season, I can see more than a few teams willing to sign Giambi to a 1-yr, $12mn deal. Now, Giambi might hold out for more than 1 year, which would limit his suitors. That's where the Yankees option comes in...by picking it up, they make him a 1-year player. Then, they deal him to a team and pick-up $10mn of the cost (which is really only $5mn because of the buy-out). If you could get a very good prospect for Giambi, it might be worth the $5mn cost.
177 I don't know...I was there, sitting through that ridiculousness, and I find it hard to say that the Yankees "won." Really, it was just a momentary failure to suck.
Among other things, I thought that was a terribly managed game, and the 9th-inning non-bunt wasn't the worst of it
For one thing, Christian should have been in there running for Pudge. Yes, if the run didn't score Molina would have to come in and there would be nobody at all left on the bench - but when exactly was he planning to win the game?
And he would have had more of a bench if he hadn't taken Giambi out for Ransom - in the 8th inning of a tie game, when you know you're not going to let Ransom bat anyway?
Girardi's much-praised bullpen management was also, frankly, piss-poor. The way that game was going, he absolutely had to leave either Bruney, Veras or Ramirez in for another inning, at least to start. He squandered his bullpen too early, just as he did his bench.
178 Wow, same age, too (mine's six in Nov.)! The Fans of the Future with Mystical Powers of Divination in the Present!
179 Agreed, but hey, there comes a point where we just have to take what we can get and be, if not thankful, exactly, relieved, or momentarily staved off, or some such thing.
181 strange, mine will be 6 alson in Nov (23rd). Brought him to his first game 2 1/2 weeks ago (Joba's win vs Balt). Maybe he's a good luck charm ?!?!?!
182 Wow, cool! Did he enjoy it? Mine's been to a handful of games (a couple Yankees games, but mostly minors and college), and he enjoys them. Comments on the action and everything.
I know, maybe they should all get drunk before the game and have the grounds crew set up a keg somewhere in short centerfield.
For every put-out, the fielders involved each have to take a deep swig.
That'd be entertaining, no?
Oh, and maybe they should wear clown shoes.
Nice thing is, the game isn't on Extree Innings so I won't be subjected to the futility. Thanks, Fox.
So lots of lying on the couch, pumping fluids while I try and recover from strep throat.
I bid you a very speedy recovery.
Those boys actually can execute the fundamentals.
No "Operation Shutdown" here ...
if this team isn't going to make the playoffs ... and i'd say that probability is less than 5%, then i want losing and lots of it
i figure we've got to finish below .500 to be guaranteed a bottom 15 finish ... which is where we'll need to be to secure a protected 1st round pick
we play today, we get one step closer to a high draft pick today
c'mon everybody ... say it with me!
then i suppose gardner really ought to be Slappy McGirlyswing
We lose every game left except we win the 6 against the Sox. Is that something to root for?
"now that is a noble cause!"
I still hate this team.
At least me might get to see AJax and some other kids in 2 weeks.

US beats Croatia in water polo!
umps sees contact, there's going to be a call.
So I finally put the game on to find it's already the sixth inning(!), we've not scored a single, solitary run (no surprise, there) and that (yet again!) Ponson, of all people, turns out to be our strong suit.
Oy.
The same goes for designated hitter Hideki Matsui, who homered in Class A Tampa's doubleheader Friday.
Joe? Joe??? THE FUCKING SEASON IS OVER!!!!!!
SMILE when you say it!
Now, who was that yokel they got to do the game on August 3? That dude was no clone, and he sucked.
still, shitty pitching by marte to walk a guy after getting ahead like that.
Really, shoot. dp or strike out?
bah-dunh, bah-dunh!
WIL-SON!
bah-dunh, bah-dunh!
LP - Ramirez, E
I was right both times.
Hit and run with Wilson Betemit is my guess.
Kaye thinks: WHAT THE FUCK IS THE MATTER WITH YOU JOE!!!!!!
First inning bunting is ridiculous. Why give an out to a pitcher who hasn't proven he can get you out.
1st and 2nd in the bottom of the ninth with no outs tied...
Of course, maybe Girardi remembered that this team can't score a runner from third with less than two outs in a close game.
Robbie says: Hey Bobby! Make pretend me is a wall! Stay away! You stink with the glove!
Why would you sit the league's batting leader in the middle of a losing streak?
The same reason Joe Girardi does everything else he does.
"Because."
Or the ever reliable reach on an error.
Of course, that didn't stop him from sitting Damon when he was first in hitting, but Johnny's shoulder needed a rest on the astroturf or something equally absurd.
Don't apply logic to Joe.

Thank goodness we're done with them tomorrow.
WE'RE READY. BRING ON THE RED SOX!
"It's not dark yet, but it's getting there ..."
pretty soon, the game thread title is gonna be:
"it's all over now, baby blue"
Oddly appropriate.
This team continues to find ways to embarass itself. Again, even if they win, the Yankees should walk off the field ashamed. He asked me who I thought was going to win and I said I didn't know, but I didn't think it would be us.
He said he had a feeling we'd win and I commended him for keeping the faith.
Gardner's ball trickled through the hole and he got excited and smiled and turned to me and said, "I told you!"
:)
We actually won a baseball game, how about that?
Excruciating to watch, from beginning to end, but we won.

Bad, bad job.

Nothing in this world like a five-year-old.
