Over at SI.com, John Rolfe revists a world without the Yankees in the post-season. I consider the possibility of a silent October in the Bronx at The Hardball Times.
Alex. Excellent points in Hardball times. I agree that it seems strange that powers that be didn't think hard enough to make sure the Yankees had a home game on the last day of the season. Instead, it looks like just another meaningless game against the Orioles. Maybe I should just sell my two tickets for that Sunday.
1 What? They were pissed. And they argued with MLB and tried to cajole the Sox into switching series. But the former just shrugged and there was no way the Sox were giving them home field when there was a chance the games might mean something.
Next year they don't even open the new place on the first day of the season. Let's just say MLB doesn't try to do the Yankees any favors.
4 Agreed, but Melky's fall is astounding. From starting CF and a chance to be Bernie lite to sent back down. That's got to hurt. Hopefully it lights a fire under Cano as well.
10 Translation of 6 : If (or when) the team finishes fourth this year, it's going to be harder to get people to pay $2500 a game to see them next year.

October
And the trees are stripped bare
Of all they wear
What do I care
October
And kingdoms rise
And kingdoms fall
But you go on...and on...
Compliments of U2. : )
Hey, Alex, that was a fabulous piece, even by your standards. Very engaging, but actually it seemed to be slightly more detached than your voice usually is. A bit different stylistically from what I'm used to from you, but every bit as fluid. Thanks for the link.

Will people pay $2500 a ticket to see a 4th place team "compete"?
I'm willing to take a little action on a 4th place finish, if you're up for it.
hahaha!
