Feelin' blue, Yankee fans?  We could be in a rage, but that's exhausting, and anyway, we can save our Fists of Fury for game time.  For the moment, I'm resigned to what is, and this beautiful song by the Kinks sums up my mood perfectly:

Oh, and yo, Raf, I still want to come see you pitch this year. Shoot me an e-mail when you get a chance...

Not making the playoffs is one thing, but realizing this team wasn't very good as early as May and then having them fall out of it by mid-August is even worse. I was hoping the Yankees would snap their playoff streak with a good team that just missed in the end, not a lethargic team that barely competed (and especially not in the last season of YS).

Are those the little bats they carried?
Are they the little boys at plate?

I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did they get to be so futile?
When did their offense get so small?

Wasn't it yesterday
When they played ball?

Swiftly go those Rays
Standings turn happiness to bummed glowers
Lengthening even as we gaze

Swiftly fly the games
Post-season following some other (team)
We're laden with crappy play and tears

What words of wisdom can Joe give them?
How can he help to ease their way?

Now they must learn from one another
Day by day

They look so lethargic together

Just like some also-rans we see

Is there no Wild Card run in store for me?

I don't see much of a run in the playoffs, but I still say there's a chance to make it.

Longoria and Crawford (possibly) out for the year. Can anyone say, "Tampa freefall"...?

7 With Boston's favorable schedule, a TB freefall is pretty much the Yankees only hope. Of course, even with a 15-25 final 40 from TB, the Yankees would still need something like 25-15. The Yankees haven't been able to play 10 games over for the first 120, so I see no reason to think they'll be able to do over the last 40.

3 Sorry man, season's done. No biggie, I wound up in the field anyway due to our 1b being in an accident.

If I play next year, I'll definitely give you a heads up as to scheduling and whatnot. Hopefully, I'll be playing in the Bx division. Schlepping to Taft HS & Clemente is a whole lot better than playing down in Bk. And we were playing DEEP in Bk; Sound Shore HS, Lafayette HS, Old Boys HS. Nice fields, but damn were they far!

8 Injuries are always the X-factor, and so far Boston seems to have survived pretty well. If Papi re-aggravates that wrist, and someone like Beckett goes down for any length of time, ya never know!

On our end, you have to think that Wang adds at least 5-6 extra wins to the total.
