Andy Says:
"If we want to make the playoffs, we have to be better," said Pettitte, who took the loss Sunday. "We stink right now for the most part. As a team, we've kind of stunk it up here lately, so we need to play better."..."We've got to find a way to put it all together for an extended period of time with our pitching and our hitting combined," Pettitte said. "It seems like right now, we're feast or famine."

I dunno. things can change - we all know that - but I don't know where the change is coming this year.
In fact, his ERA this year is just a blase 4.96 (which even includes yesterday's stomping of the Yanks) and his ERA+ is 82, which is God Awful. I agree that Burnett dominates the Yankees, but he's not an elite pitcher by any means.
By comparison, Halladay has a 130 ERA+ and this season he's at 151. So, I agree that Halladay is elite.
It's over gents. We're on pace to score 743 runs this season (as compared to 968 last year) and our pitching stinks too. Our ERA+ is 99 right now. We're just a mediocre team after 95 games (or 59% of the season).
IF, Big IF, we go on a 10-3 tear after the break and become buyers and get Texeira, then maybe we have a chance to sneak in. But, I'm afraid this is just a rebuilding year (like the Sox had in 2006) where we have to grin and bear it and know that the rewards are coming a year or two down the road.
Cashman, if he's around, will have some big decisions to make vis-a-vis Texeira, CC and all our free agents. I hope we can get younger and better.
