Smokin'

Mike Mussina has more than exceeded expectations of late but I fear that he's due for a stinker, especially with that awfully short porch in left down in Houston.  Who knows? I'd love to be wrong. Here's hoping the Yanks do the cookin' tonight.

I just walked in the door to see Papelbon give up a game tying 2 out homerun. "That's a shame."
Let's hope the Moose has full bag o' tricks tonight. 3 games over 500 is virgin territory. Hard to believe. That Youkilis homer was an even bigger shame.

I know that the NL is the more "tactical" league and all, but sac bunts early in the game make even less sense when the pitcher has to bat. You're throwing away one of 24 or so outs rather than one of 27.

Wow. Cecil Cooper is very bad at tactics. Is this 'small ball', or 'NL-style'? We could have been blown right out of this game in the first inning. And now, because of the A-Rod IBB, we have the bases loaded.

Anyone else watch Spain v. Sweden today? Kind of a letdown after yesterday. Torres was amazing as usual, but Spain was really lucky to have Villa save them.

163 I have a theory about that.
I think Girardi believes that Farns is the Great Equalizer. It doesn't matter who he pitches to. Anybody can hit a home run off him, he can obviously walk anyone. And when he hits the groove, Tejada will pop up and Ortiz will strike out swinging.

181 Borderline. It's a good call if you figure a three run lead means the ballgame is essentially over.

But if Melky gets another RBI walk, it's not a good call. ;-)
