Andy Log 4080: Africa Hot
2008-06-07 07:17
by Alex Belth

The Yanks need a bounce-back win this afternoon against one of Joe Posnanski's favorites, Brian Bannister.  It is hotter n July hot in the Bronx today--hot, hazy, dumb hot.  Andy Pettitte goes for the Yanks.  The ball should be a-jumping, boy.

Keep cool, y'all and...

Let's go Yan-Kees!

why do i have the feeling that today's gonna be another struggle for the offense ... bannister's got some extreme day/night splits going on:

Great idea to bunt in the first inning of a game you'll likely need a lot of runs to win. Brilliant.

The weather says it's 84 with a humidity of 70% of here in NH. Was out in the garden at 9 to unload a pickup load of topsoil. By the time I picked up the shovel, I was drenched. Steam room humid. Suicide humid. Supposed to get progressively hotter over the next 3 days.

More pitiful hitting with men in scoring position, which is exactly why it is stupid to play for one run. This Yankee is bordering on pathetic.

18 well i certainly would like to see matsui in the lineup - but then who is out - you don't want damon or giambi out now either - maybe you sit abreu and have matsui in rf which is always an adventure - or you put damon at 1b and have matsui at lf dropping betemit - but that is a bit scary defensively as well.
there's not a lot of flexibility with the 25 man right now - i mean if shelley duncan is pinch running that tells you all you need to know.
2008-06-07 10:38:12
23.   Yankees Brasil
22 Giambi at 1B, Damon at LF, Matsui at DH, Betemit sits.

Girardi obviously thinks the offense is doing great and we should rest some of our best producers, since everybody else is hitting.

Cano needs to read Ted Williams book. He feels that he can hit every pitch, but does not seem to understand some pitches are better to hit then others. The concept of 'waiting for your pitch' just doesn't exist in Cano's head.

Words are really at a loss for this one. I have no idea what Girardi is thinking, a day after a pitcher pitches 8 innings with a rested bullpen. I'm pretty sure everyone could see disaster there, and Andy has pretty consistently given up leads this year.

Absolutely inexcusable managing there. Freaking terrible. This team is scuffling enough, it doesn't its manager to make such blatantly boneheaded decisions...

Great, lets drop the series to the 2nd worst team in baseball right when we should be taking off, nothing sums up this season better than that.

130 It gives you an idea of what RH batters faced in the old stadium. Mantle and especially Joe D. were at a huge disadvantage. God knows how many HRs Joe D. would have had if he played in a normal stadium.

3/4/2004:
"Free agent outfielder Chris Singleton was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday after failing a team physical.

Singleton reported feeling light-headed and dizzy during his three days in camp with Pittsburgh. He was originally diagnosed with an inner ear infection before being sent back to Pittsburgh on Monday for additional medical testing.

The team, citing player confidentiality issues, declined to disclose what caused Singleton to fail the physical.

"Basically, we voided his contract based upon him flunking the physical," said Pirates GM Dave Littlefield. "That's really all I have to report."

Wikipedia says Chris is NOT related to Ken. Is that correct? I thought he was his son.

He actually played a dozen games for TB in 2005, but that was it. Wiki says: "... a color commentator on Chicago White Sox radio broadcasts for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. However, on March 4, 2008 it was announced that he would be leaving that position to take on an analyst role with the ESPN television program Baseball Tonight."
