The Rays pulled out their must-win game in extra-innings last night. Now, the Dodgers arrive home down 0-2 in the NLCS facing not just one, but a pair of must-win games. With Cole Hamels lurking as the Phillies' Game 5 starter, the Dodgers simply cannot afford to lose either tonight or Monday and give Hamels a chance to pitch Philadelphia into the World Series Wednesday night. Fortunately for the Dodgers, tonight's pitching matchup is in their favor. . . .

Making a better A-Rod
Alex Rodriguez is so good, he doesn't need to strive for perfection
By John Paciorek / DugoutCentral.com

An 'analysis' of why ARod has a hole is his swing and how to improve it. Valid? Is ARod on the bus with this?

On the other hand, that's Pags's site, and I don't put much stock in anything from there. Maybe it's improved, I don't know, but he lost his credibility with me long ago.

1 yeah, i read that the other day. i think nomaas had a link for it.

hope some fellow banterers show up for the game tonight! i'll miss the beginning due to work, but i hope to catch a bulk of it. something tells me it'll be a bit shorter than last nites event...

Checking in...

OYF, Steve Lombardi linked to that article. Didn't think much of it then, think less about it now.

I may chime in @ DT.

And yes, Fox is still lame

hello? anyone home? paging fellow banterites? Jazz Tokyo, Chyll, Raf, JL, Just Fair, RI Yank, OYF?!?!?! beuller? beuller?

came home from work and it was 5-1, the furcal immediately made it 6-1. i like moyer and i root for him, but he's having a rough postseason. he's not gonna get a gig til he's 50 like that...

ooh, some excitement on the field!

and still no banterers... : (

3 I've seen nothing there to make me change my mind these past few months.

7 I'm here, but all I've got is that (for me), the best part of the Dodgers going deep in the playoffs is getting to listen to Vin Scully on XM. And now I'm gone.

6 Hey man, you asking for the Rouges' Gallery or what? I can't stay, early morning call, but did want to wish all who do show up a... well... it IS L.A. vs Philly after all... on a Sunday... JETS JETS JETS! >;)
2008-10-12 18:42:19
11.   thelarmis
hey chyll! ya know, i'm not a football guy at all, but i do root for the Jets. as a kid, Wesley Walker was my favorite player. i might be picking up some old Jets trading cards soon, for nostalgia's sake...

Hey folks.
I dropped in at Dodger Thoughts but they tend to ignore outsiders, unless some of our acquaintances (underdog, etc) are around.
2008-10-12 18:49:33
13.   thelarmis
12 hey there! i gave you a shout at DT. yeah, i asked if underdog was around. i actually got a reply - that he lives in the bay area. but, yeah, other than that i'd get ignored and underdog doesn't seem to be around tonight. i'll be here...
2008-10-12 18:51:27

13 I know, I saw. That's why I'm here.

Trainwreck is a BB frequenter, but he doesn't seem to be heavily involved tonight.

15.   thelarmis
it's really frickin' difficult not to curse over at DT. even something as pedestrian as: holy fucking shit, that was a great muthafuckin' catch! or, tim mccarver sucks shit at announcing and he's a stoopid asshole! : )

ah, that feels good. nice to be home here at the banter...

2008-10-12 18:55:54
16.   thelarmis
14 cool! yeah, i recognized trainwreck - he's the one who replied to me - but i couldn't remember if he was one of our acquaintances or not, like underdog.

torre is soooo familiar to me. him in dodger blue...not so much.

goddamn, derek lowe is TALL!

astrophysics. i got screwed on that class in college. senior year and i needed 3 credits of Science. my buddy and i thought it'd be an easy 3-credit class and we'd learn about the stars and shit. um, not so much. it was ridiculously hard and pointless for a classical musician preparing for his Senior Recital and graduation. the professor was a jerk, to boot. thankfully, my girlfriend at the time was a brilliant sort and we made a deal - she did all my astrophysics work and i did her music theory work...

and melky slides into first! called out...

quick check-in. game on the radio here, but it's a 3-day weekend so heading out now. Hold down the fort thelarmis, will be back tomorrow for Sox-Rays...(unless it's an afternoon game in Boston, would be 4am here...)

I know, that "Rule 1" thing is so... I dunno. It's a little like elementary school. Rule 1 even forbids euphemisms, though they don't seem to enforce that part.
2008-10-12 19:05:29
21.   thelarmis
19 hey man! you have a holiday over there? yeah, the boston game is in the afternoon. i'll catch maybe half of it. i'll definitely miss the night game as i'll be performing with my jazz trio... enjoy your day off, bro!

19 Why do you guys get Columbus Day off? Oh, no, it's for Yom Kippur, right? That's big in Tokyo, I bet.
2008-10-12 19:11:13
23.   Mr OK Jazz TOKYO
21 22 hah, today is "Sports Day", seriously. After the war, sometime in the 1960s, the govt realized that people were never taking their paid vacations, and overwork was a real problem. They decided to increase the number of official govt. holidays to once a month. So, a lot of great three day-weekends with holidays like "Nature Day", "Kids Day", "Respect for the Elderly Day" and "Sports Day". I ain't complaining!
2008-10-12 19:12:04
24.   thelarmis
22 oh, that's right - tomorrow's columbus day. that means, no bank/post office, right?! guess i'll wait til tues/wed...

yom kippur. doh, i didn't fast! ah, haven't in many many years. shhh, don't tell my mom! ; ) i was actually working in alabama on yom kippur. it's probably as big there as it is in tokyo! i did get outta jury duty b/c of the high holiday though... : )

Yeah, here in RI a whole lot of shit is closed on Columbus Day. I don't know why.

But I do know I'm only saying 'shit' because of Rule 1.

2008-10-12 19:19:45

i'm a lowly musician and am glad i get to play tomorrow night... are you a professor at Brown?

there sure is nice eye candy in the stands there in la-la land... : )

Hey alarmis and RIY, y'all are welcome at DT anytime. Sorry I wasn't there earlier. Caught up with ya later. Sometimes DT-ers, like any fans in the middle of their game are pretty wrapped up in the action and nervous, but I'm pretty sure people love having guests there. Yeah, as long as you respect Jon's rules.

But since I'm on Bronx Banter right now... That was a fuckin' great game! ;-)

They have to take tomorrow's too, though, I think, as Cliff noted (or Cliff notes), or it'll be a steep uphill climb.

56 The Phils were pitching inside. I can't see Moyer throwing at batters, not with his stuff.

Besides, another Dodger was hit by Durbin after warnings were issued, and he wasn't ejected.
