Andy Log 4080: Africa Hot
2008-06-07 07:17
by Alex Belth

The Yanks need a bounce-back win this afternoon against one of Joe Posnanski's favorites, Brian Bannister.  It is hotter n July hot in the Bronx today--hot, hazy, dumb hot.  Andy Pettitte goes for the Yanks.  The ball should be a-jumping, boy.

Keep cool, y'all and...

Let's go Yan-Kees!

0 Been that kind of day here so far. We just got a kiddie pool for the dog. Filled it up on the deck for the first time today. She loooves it, but she just ran in the house and drenched the entire kitchen.

why do i have the feeling that today's gonna be another struggle for the offense ... bannister's got some extreme day/night splits going on:

record, obaa, oops, era
day: 11-2, .229, .614, 3.03
night: 8-14, .263, .762, 4.76

Great idea to bunt in the first inning of a game you'll likely need a lot of runs to win. Brilliant.

The weather says it's 84 with a humidity of 70% of here in NH. Was out in the garden at 9 to unload a pickup load of topsoil. By the time I picked up the shovel, I was drenched. Steam room humid. Suicide humid. Supposed to get progressively hotter over the next 3 days.
2008-06-07 10:27:17
14.   williamnyy23
More pitiful hitting with men in scoring position, which is exactly why it is stupid to play for one run. This Yankee is bordering on pathetic.

i wonder if they are having a contest to see who has the most number of times to drive in a runner at 3rd with less than 2 out and DOES NOT DO IT?

18 well i certainly would like to see matsui in the lineup - but then who is out - you don't want damon or giambi out now either - maybe you sit abreu and have matsui in rf which is always an adventure - or you put damon at 1b and have matsui at lf dropping betemit - but that is a bit scary defensively as well.
there's not a lot of flexibility with the 25 man right now - i mean if shelley duncan is pinch running that tells you all you need to know.
2008-06-07 10:38:12
23.   Yankees Brasil
22 Giambi at 1B, Damon at LF, Matsui at DH, Betemit sits.

Girardi obviously thinks the offense is doing great and we should rest some of our best producers, since everybody else is hitting.

2008-06-07 12:27:38

Cano needs to read Ted Williams book. He feels that he can hit every pitch, but does not seem to understand some pitches are better to hit then others. The concept of 'waiting for your pitch' just doesn't exist in Cano's head.
2008-06-07 12:28:44

78 what's frustrating is cano looks like he is coming out of his fog and then he isn't - he looked good last night with 2 doubles and has had a few decent abs/hits in the last few games, and then he loses it again

Relentlessly .500 team - One game, pitch good, no hit; next game, hit pretty good, no pitch or D and shitty baserunning. Whenever ya think they'll put it together...

Now this is downright insane. Can't let Pettitte face Guillen.
