Elimination Day II
2008-10-05 09:50
by Cliff Corcoran

All three Division Series could wrap up today, but I think the White Sox will survive the weekend, and am hoping the Brewers will as well so that we can see CC and Cole Hamels face off in Game 5. My preview of today's action is up over at SI.com.

Unless Sabathia comes in in relief today. I'm kind of hoping to see that.

hey JL - how 'bout CC for some relief hitting?! ; ) you figured he'd get some kind of "K" if he came in the game...

Boo Hoo for the Brew Crew.

Phillies v Dodgers. I don't know why but I really like that. They've got some playoff history, it's east/west coast. I'm kind of digging this match up. Hopefully, it's a decent series. This whole ALCS hasn't been exactly riveting yet.

Any chance the Angels can pull one out of their arse and win tonight? Me no think so but I sure hope I'm wrong.

3 It's gotta be because of those late-70s matchups of Dodgers-Phillies and Yankees-Royals. Dodgers-Phillies just feels right.

Best game of the first round so far was Bosox-Angels Game 2.

Mainly because it hasn't happened yet :)

Nice Gints win today, Plaxico who?

Dodger - Phillies should get better rating than Brewer vs. someone. Brewers - Devil Rays would be a real low rated series. Pity the Cubbies choked harder than, well, just about anything.

4 yeah, i thought that too. But pity no Veterans Stadium.. i miss the cookie-cutter, high-bounce, wreck-the-knees artificial turf era..the post-Camden parks are nice but all seem similarly "quirky"..

WTF? Gameday says a "soft fly ball single to center" scored Boston 3 runs...what happend??
2008-10-05 17:39:47
9.   Just fair
8 Runners were gong on the 3-2 pitch that was promptly popped up to medium center. Kendrick could have caught it, Hunter could have caught it, but they wound up looking at each other and saying, "At least we kill the Yankees." All 3 runs score. Everything happened with 2 outs.
Bollocks!!
2008-10-05 17:40:57
10.   OldYanksFan
Easy to catch flyball. SS, 2nd and CF all chase it. 2nd base looks to make the play then gives way at the last second and the ball drops. Terrible play. CF should have had it, but 2nd was so aggressive, CF gave way.

ch-own playing like he does against the pinstripes. i hope he steals 2nd, 3rd and scores on a balk or wild pitch!
2008-10-05 18:05:53
17.   thelarmis
that was really well hit. man, i hate the Fens. always have. i really don't get all the hype about that stadium and all the love it gets. nostalgia, be damned.

i've played right across the street and that it was pretty dumpy. the monster made me all claustrophobic...

let's hope Vlad hits one 600ft..has he ever hit a playoff homer?? (too lazy to check)
2008-10-05 18:12:23
20.   thelarmis
well, instead of hitting it 600 ft., he slowly trotted about 60, but i'll take it! that's 4 walks for 'plays the game right'. how bout a bases clearing double, torii?!
2008-10-05 18:13:05

10 left on base through 4 innings..Angels playing suspiciously like the Yankees right now, very "unclutch"...

"plays the game the right way" is one of the more annoying phrases in baseball..got any others??

captain vagitek!

or is fuckett, "respects the game." i think that was it...

17 I've always liked Fenway - right on top of the action. Sure, it's old and a little run down, but sure better than a lot of the newer stadiums.
2008-10-05 18:28:42
29.   thelarmis
19 yeah, Vlad hit a homer in the 2004 postseason. he has a double in this series thus far. those are his only XBH in postseason play -- 19 games, including today.
2008-10-05 18:31:51
30.   thelarmis
28 i've just never liked it. honestly. has nothing to do with the 'rivalry' either. i haven't been to a ton of the new parks, but i really like pac bell and The Ted.

26 i've been at the griddle most of the day, not much doing. i'm glad there's some action here at home - bronx banter!

31 Vlad in his prime was just awesome to watch..

2008-10-05 18:35:47

31 but, of course! in just about twice as many postseason games, alex has 7 HR & 9 Doubles...

From Wiki:
Although his family name is derived from the Greek culture, Youkilis is Jewish.

On August 8, 2005, while playing for the Red Sox, Youkilis took the field in the 9th inning along with Adam Stern and Gabe Kapler, setting a "record" for the most Jewish players on the field at one time in American League history, and the most in Major League Baseball history since four Jewish players took the field for the New York Giants in a game in 1941.

Stern, Kapler and Youkilis.
